I believe the definition of nursing is an educated, trained person who provides focused medical care for individuals, families, and communities. Interrelationship amongst patients, health, nursing and the environment are all related. There is a connection between all four that assist in providing quality health care and healthy people 2020 has been a way to connect all the dots between them. Communities working together to ensure follow up care for patients without the necessities to live helps build that interrelationship. With clients that have health issues proper nursing education is important to prevent further comorbidities and assist with current health issues. Some of these patients do not have a home to go to, a way to continue their medications, or even have a way to receive their medications. It wasn’t until I flew on an Air Evacuation mission that solidified my decision to pursue a nursing career. I watched a small team of medics and a flight nurse transport a patient from down range to a higher echelon of care without the presence of a physician. They were very knowledgeable and advanced in their medical career. I was taught the importance of knowing the aircraft and how to determine the type of patient you can transport and the equipment you can use on the aircraft. For 11 years, I only saw the impact that nurses made inside the hospital and down range, but to see how they operate independently and how their providers trust them was impressive.
