In my upcoming years at Michigan State University I have intentions on applying to the Nursing school, completing nursing school and in the end continuing my academic career by becoming a CRNA- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The reasons I crave to pursue this career are ample: opportunities to aid others on a daily basis, work on a team with other medical professionals and be able to alter people's lives in a positive way consistently.
This profession suits me well due to the fact that this profession requires a person who is sociable, empathetic and can handle adversity with positivity. Regardless of discovering my passion for being a CRNA last year, I have been prepping for the medical world for the past two years by volunteering, job shadowing and maintaining acceptable grades. My volunteer positions have consisted of Kids Food Basket- a nonprofit organization that provides food for deprived children in the Grand Rapids area-, weekly volunteer at Helen Devos Children's Hospital in the outpatient surgery unit, and now the the medical/ nursing floor at Mclaren hospital in Lansing. During my years of high school I was a member of Student Government, Project Chuck, Senior Leadership and National Honors Society. In addition to volunteering volunteering I have also done medical job shadows. I spent one summer shadowing a physical therapist three days a week which ultimately turned out wonderful because I discovered I wanted a career that was a faster pace and in a hospital setting. After that job shadow I shadowed a physician assistant in the the cardiothoracic intensive care unit at Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. Lastly, i job shadowed a CRNA in Grand Rapids where I was able to observe a day in the life of an CRNA and many surgeries: laminectomies and spinal
