Reality Assignment 2 Listening and communicating is a skill and it requires consistency, open communication, positive communication, less misinterpretation, coming to a common ground and most importantly it is something that is a learning process (Seccombe, 2015). It is key to understand qualities such as nonverbal body language which is understanding the person through empathy and silent movements and clarifying what you believe that person is saying (Seccombe, 2015). However, non-verbal communication can be easily misunderstood. When it is understood, this creates a sense of bond that the speaker is now being able to convey their thoughts without any misunderstandings or conflict. In my conversation with Penny, I tended to

I could also tell her non-verbal skill such as her eyes were low and shoulders tense. She goes on explaining how some guy is a jerk and she would pause and cry, and instead of just agreeing, I asked her why and asked her questions to clarify. I also remembered past incidences in which he was also being selfish towards her feelings, so I questioned if this is a repeat on that past and wanted to show her that I do listen to her conversations and so it could also help her reflect. In that moment, I summarized for her and I explained the six basic steps on resolving conflict that was taught to us in class (J.M. Vaterlaus, personal communication, September 21, 2017). In a kind way in which I watched my tone and asked her what she wanted to do, she flipped it

Software application development at my company was initiated first out of security concerns. There were increasing numbers of security breaches reported in hospitals, banks, Yahoo, and other places that paused potential hazards (Snyder, 2014). We are in the financial Industry with huge volumes of sensitive data. Our Information Technology department expressed concerns that our SQL server was an easy target to those that may want to hack the system. Existing security measures and periodic training were very strict but they were not enough to protect customers from hackers.
At approximately 2153hrs I arrived on the 1A unit to talk with a resident about an issue of him not be allowed to go into another resident’s room to help that resident with moving his TV. I explained to him he could not enter another resident’s room. This action is not allowed. He complied and walked away. After I completed talking with the resident involved in this situation I was approached by another resident to hear his problem. Afterwards at about 2206hrs as I walked over to speak with staff I watched and listened to resident Wright and SSTT Bowden have a verbal disagreement? Within this exchange I heard the resident say to the staff “bitch shut up”. Then SSTT Bowden responded with “you shut the fuck up”. Once it got to that point I

This week in my HUMI 1 class, the one topic that we discussed in class that captured my attention was the state of being Naiveté. Although being naive is often looked down upon, it can also be something that you require in order to achieve your goals. When looking into the topic of Naiveté, the first person that I went to was my father. He was a refugee after the Vietnam war in 1975. Vietnam, even to this day, is not a place that many would want to live in. According to my father, during his time there, it was a filthy place to live and everyone there would often get sick. People were forced to work to exhaustion and starvation and diseases were the main causes of death. While all of this was occurring, he and his friends would often talk about

Speaking and listening is verbal and nonverbal. Listening is one of the most important aspects of effective communication (Robinson, Lawrence, and Jeanne Segal).
