Reality Assignment 2 Listening and communicating is a skill and it requires consistency, open communication, positive communication, less misinterpretation, coming to a common ground and most importantly it is something that is a learning process (Seccombe, 2015). It is key to understand qualities such as nonverbal body language which is understanding the person through empathy and silent movements and clarifying what you believe that person is saying (Seccombe, 2015). However, non-verbal communication can be easily misunderstood. When it is understood, this creates a sense of bond that the speaker is now being able to convey their thoughts without any misunderstandings or conflict. I could also tell her non-verbal skill such as her eyes were low and shoulders tense. She goes on explaining how some guy is a jerk and she would pause and cry, and instead of just agreeing, I asked her why and asked her questions to clarify. I also remembered past incidences in which he was also being selfish towards her feelings, so I questioned if this is a repeat on that past and wanted to show her that I do listen to her conversations and so it could also help her reflect.
