Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation: I believe that Europe was mostly affected by cultural and philosophical influences. I will begin with Martin Luther who had views that were revolutionary. Martin Luther was born in a predominately Catholic world which dominated Europe. Luther after a near death experience decided to become a monk, while in the monastery, he began questioning his final salvation. He realized that it was not the church that would bring salvation but his own personal beliefs. Luther travelled to Rome where he discovered the corruption of the Catholic Church. Luther began attacking the indulgences of the Catholic Church and began the reformation. He had many followers and would preach that God is the only one that can provide salvation, nothing that one does or says or pays can provide salvation. Luther changed the Catholic Church and opened up the Protestant and Lutheran religions. The Scientific Revolution: The scientific revolution opened Europe to many scientific fields and studies.
