The movie ordinary people used many concepts that we have covered in class, the 3 related concepts are, Managing interpersonal conflicts, nonverbal communication, and language a barrier and bridge.
In this movie tragedy had struck this family extremely hard, and it blew everything apart. There were arguments, depression, sadness, loneliness, and many more. Conrad seemed to be one of the most distraught from the event where his older brother had died from an accident. He had lost his only sibling, and did not feel very good about it. He became depressed, and did not say much. His parents were oblivious to what he was feeling, because he showed very little signs of non-verbal communication. They were going through interpersonal conflicts. We learned in class, that conflicts are natural, and can be beneficial, but not in this situation. The definition of an interpersonal conflicts is, “an expressed struggle between at least 2 independent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce rewards, and interference from the other party in achieving their goals.” His parents were constantly arguing and they were trying to work things out, but it just was not the same as it had been before. Each of them perceived each other as different, and there was not much they could agree on. This is what can happen after things like this happen in life, it is hard to get things turned back around. In life it can be hard to be positive and work through things like this, but as hard as it can be it is the best option. As a wise man once said, “sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better.” I have found this to be entirely true, and at times when bad things are continuing to happen, I know that if I can work through them, better things will be on the other …show more content…

This family lacked communication. In this case language was both a barrier and bridge. The true meaning of literature is actually in the people not the words. Conrad and his mother Beth had a confusing relationship. The audience was definitely aware of this, because whenever they talked there was an awkwardness between them, it was almost as if they had just met for the first time and they were both nervous to talk to the other person. When they talked the barrier was the shyness and awkwardness, and the bridge was them being able have basic conversations. Because of the uncomfortable communication between both, the mother son attraction had dwindled, and began to slip away. Conrad’s mother claimed she still loved him, but after the death of her other son a majority of her love had went along with him, this made it difficult to love Conrad with all her heart, because part of it was
