The Cold war consisted of many events such as the building of the Berlin wall to make sure East Germans wouldn’t flee from communism, then the Berlin Blockade causing the U.S to intervene and bring supplies to the people, known as the Berlin air lift. Though the United states wanted to contain communism, it continued to spread to Korea, China, Vietnam and Cuba. Causing us to intervene in the Vietnam War, the Korean War and a failed attempt to invade Cuba.
During the Cold war the United States went through many Presidents who tried to solve the issues of the cold war. The problems were the spreading of communism and the idea of trying to contain it, the fear of the Soviet Union using there nuclear weapons and destroying civilization. Each president did take action by creating policies but some presidents during this period were better then others. Most of the Cold war presidents ware attacking the issues the same way. Based off Research one would believe that Nixon had the most effective Cold war policies because he attacked the Cold war issues with different polices or actions that the other presidents didn’t try to attempt to do.
Richard Nixon was the thirty-seventh president of the United States came into office January 20th 1969 and ended in August 9th 1974. Before he was president he served as a Republican U.S. Representative and Senator from California. After being a senator he was the 36th Vice president of the United States. He ran first against Kennedy for presidency and lost. Though through the Alger Hiss case he earned his reputation of a leading anti-communist and he end up winning election of 1968. ...T treating with the Soviets. Instead of making them cut of Nuclear weapons all together which Kennedy was asking for he created a treaty, which made a limited of nuclear weapons. That the soviets and the United States could only have a certain amount of weapons, this was a different and better approach since the Soviets didn’t want to be told to stop doing something all together.
Each Cold War president different policies to attack the Cold war, the whole time the United states was nervous about the state of there country since it seemed like both the U.S and the Soviets were waiting for who would pull the trigger first. Though Nixon was the most effective president during the cold war because he took different approchs that other presidents didn’t take. Instead of stopping something all together and specifically working with only the soviets to stop the cold war.
