Recommended: Importance of academic success

I am the prime example for a student that strives for excellence in everything that I do. When I first entered High School my ninth grade year I was in honors classes doing very good until I was distracted. I let other students bring me down to their level and I started slacking in my grades and not caring about anything. When school let out that summer my mother sent me to Greensboro, N.C to stay with my god-sister for the summer so I could act right and get my head back in the books. My god sister and I had a talk about my actions and what I needed to do to improve them. I told her that I was going into my sophomore year of school focused and leaving the crowd behind because I eventually got tired of letting my family down. My tenth grade …show more content…

At the end of my junior year I was awarded the US Army Recruiting Award for Academics at the awards ceremony I was also awarded the position 1SG for the upcoming school year in JROTC. Now that it’s my senior year I have all my duck in a row and I know where I want to be in life. When I get accepted into college I want to major in Mass Communications and receive my bachelors and come back to get my masters. I also plan on cheering in college as well. Clark Atlanta University is the college of my dreams. I’ve heard nothing great and positive things about the college. It’s also in the city where I plan on residing in when I graduate college. If I get accepted into this school it would mean the world to me because all I want to do is my my mother and my family proud. I come from a small town in North Carolina where all we’re known for was the negative things. I refuse to be a product of what town I come from. I have high expectations of myself and I have dreams that I will achieve. Through my involvement in Jets TEAMS and my solid academic record, I feel that I have demonstrated the scholarship required for entrance into the National Honor Society. It is difficult to narrow things down to a single situation in which I have demonstrated leadership qualities to the extent that is required for entrance into the NHS, but for the purposes of this paper (and the sake of brevity), I will focus on my past involvement in the "People to People: Student Ambassador Program." People to People is a nationally recognized organization which sends groups of American students to foreign countries where they can learn about another culture by experiencing it firsthand. Their itinerary also stresses the development of leadership skills and the importance of teamwork. Through my involvement in this program, aside from learning a lot about a foreign culture (I traveled to Australia for 3 weeks), I also learned a great deal about the responsibilities and obligations that go along with being a leader.
