Recommended: Effect of the Holocaust

“In the shadow of the Holocaust… the United Nations approved the Convention on the Prevention and Punishments of the Crime of Genocide” (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum). In Bonsia, after a genocide, there was the creation of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to bring justice by prosecuting the perpetrators of the atrocities (USHMM). Following the Holocaust the United Nations gathered together and said “Never Again.” This gave many, including the survivors, hope that this would help better the world. Truth is, other genocides happened after the Holocaust: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Burma, Cambodia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sudan and South Sudan, and Syria. . The following events proved how “Never Again” did not succeed as a reminder to humans to be up standers instead of by standers.
“The Holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of the approximately six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators. Holocaust is a word of Greek origin meaning ‘sacrifice by fire’” (USHMM). During the rise of the Nazi power in 1933 the Germans found themselves superior, the perfect race. Adolf Hitler, the Nazi leader, wanted to have only the perfect race, the Aryans. The Jews we’re considered the “’inferior’ [and] were and alien threat to the so-called German racial community” (USHMM). Because there were this much of a threat, Hitler along with the Nazi party and German citizens, thought the best way to rid of the Jews, Germany, and on a much larger scale, Europe, was to exterminate them. As a result, they moved all the Jews into one secluded area away from the German citizens; an area called the Ghettos. One of these Ghettos was the town of Lodz, who kept meticulous historical records of everything that went on in the city.
