Texting, messaging, and online social networking allows children to become more connected and supportive of their friends. The Pew Research Center found that half of Americans teenagers defined in the study as ages 12-17 send 50 or more text messages a day and 1/3 send more than 100 a day. The Center’s internet and American life project says “2/3 of teenager’s text their friends more than calling them.” Based on this, Kaiser family foundation reported that “Americans between ages 8-18 spend on 7.5 hours a day using some sort of electronics device, from smart phones to mp3 players to computer.” Therefore, social network had impacted people’s lives in many great ways. Social networking has been helpful for friends and family because it improves social interaction, it helps people build a stronger relationship with each other, and it helps relieve stress First of all, social networking can be very helpful because it helps relieve stress. Dr. Jim Taylor says that “social media can provide children with social support which can act as a buffer against stress.” This proves that social networking helps distract you from all the stress you have and it can also help reduce your stress in order for you to have fewer worries. Dr. Jim Taylor also says that “technology may act as a distraction and a means of distancing children from the stressors, providing a respite from the stress and giving them the time and perspective to deal with stress more effectively.” Whenever you’re in a bad mood, social media will help get your mind off of all the stress and lets you focus on something more entertaining. Social network also help you become attached to old family members who you haven’t contact in forever. This goes out for friends as well. Social network also help me decrease my stress. Whenever I’m in a bad mood, it helps get my mind off from all my problems and let my mind focus on something more entertaining. This helped me think about positive things instead of negative things. Also, when you’re in a bad mood, social network lets you express your feelings or talk about your problems with your friends so that they can help solve your problems. This definitely can cause you less stress and make yourself feel better about yourself once your problems have been solved. Therefore, I would recommend teenagers to use social network which can change your life or even have a huge impact on you in many great ways.
