The careers I have researched are obstetrics and gynecology physician (OB GYN), neonatologist, and emergency physician. These three careers will make it possible for me to work in the job setting I have longed for, a hospital. As a child, I always knew I wanted to help people by saving their lives, and all of these careers can make my dreams achievable. Research on these three careers includes education, pay, job skills, employment, typical day, and job aptitude. My first career is an OB GYN. The typical education for an OB GYN is about 12 years. This includes a science-based bachelor’s degree, four-year medical degree, and a four-year residency. When a person is planning on becoming an neonatologist, they should expect about 14 years of schooling. These years will include a bachelor's degree in science, four year medical degree, three year residency, and a three year neonatal fellowship where they will specialize in the field of neonatology(Neonatology.org). During these years of education, the student will spend alot of their time at a university, later on a medical school, and the pediatric ward When a the impassioned neonatologist completes their years of schooling, their average salary will be around $230,000. To be specific, the average salary in Dallas, Texas is $231,759, whereas in Madison, Wisconsin, the average salary is slightly less at $230,435 (Salary.com). In order to be a successful neonatologist, a person must be a leader, function in high-stress situations, withhold empathy, be manually dexterous, inhabit enthusiasm and passion, and be able to make quick decisions (Workchron). Being I have most of these qualities and skills, I will be highly benefited in the occupation field of neonatology. Being in this specific field is a very promising. According to Amishamenta.weebly, the field of neonatology is expected to grow 22% by 2018. However, not only will the field grow, an unexperienced neonatologist has many opportunities for growth in this field. They can start at the bottom, but they can become chief of all the neonatologist in their workplace or they can continue to go back to school to further their education to become more experienced. On the other hand, geographic location, time, and malpractice insurance costs all affect job availability in this field (Healthcarecareerssalaryworld).
