Neoclassical and Romantic movements cover the period of 1750 to 1850. Neoclassicism is essentially an art of an ideal; it was viewed as revolutionary denial of the self-indulgence of the baroque. The Baroque style is exemplified by drama in its paintings and sculpture which was a general longing of the classicism where the rise of Neoclassical era begun. The colors were sharper than those found in the Baroque or Rococo art that followed. Art of the neoclassic era used the famous chiaroscuro which is a technique that played with the vivid contrast between light and dark colors, which provided a sense of drama to the painting. It was an era that showed life to be more rational than it really was, it appealed to support the French Revolution by portraying its characters the legacy of ancient Greece and Rome. Romanticism was a type of movement that no artist has seen before; it started in France and was led by the Barbizon school, a circle of artists who held meetings in the village of Barbizon. It was a way the artist used their opportunity to create a symbolism and mere myths to portray their imagination. Using high emotion in the paintings they create the viewer to unlock all emotion they feel that is happening around them. Romantic artist use heroic events, actions, struggles for indepence from the government and politics. They embrace a sense of passion leaving behind any type of rational thinking. Both artist portrayed what they believed in through their art, Even though they portrayed it differently they both stood up to what they believed in. As years pass by they seem to evolve from painting differently and using different colors and styles to get their point across, whether it’s political or emotional it had both a huge impact on the community. The main thing is that they do what they loved to send the community the messaged they wanted, The schools they attended to become these amazing artist, had amazing teachers, that is where it began. Jules Verne heavily impacted science fiction and the technology of today through his novels. His science fiction novels grew popular and as a result made this genre well-known. More importantly, his novels predicted the moon landing, skyscrapers, submarines, planes, hot air balloons, and more. These works were read by scientists and explorers, like Simon Lake who designed the submarine, and these readers attempted and succeeded to create these inventions and explore to the places, like the moon, that are in his stories.

The Baroque era was a very dynamic time that showed an abundance of radiance and color. Artists of this time are passionate and sensual. Romanticism was an artistic and philosophical time period that occurred in Europe during the late 18th century. Many forms of art were introduced at this time, as were forms of poetry and unorthodox ideals coming from the creators of these pieces. The poetry of Blake, Wordsworth, and Keats all shared aspects of nature and their personal emotions displayed through literary allusions. They break away from social norms, and even artistic norms, which was the aim of the artists during this part of literary history.

Culturally, Romanticism freed people from the limitations and rules of the Enlightenment. The music of the Enlightenment was orderly and restrained, while the music of the Romantic period was emotional. As an aesthetic style, Romanticism was very imaginative while the art of the Enlightenment was realistic and ornate. Art transcends language, and provides a depiction of cultural ideologies, fashion, and ideals in a way texts from the time period can not. Rococo, Neoclassicism, and Romanticism were all indicators of a changing time in which economics, politics, and culture were altered. The transition between each gauges the severity of the change depending on how extremely each differs from its predecessor. While the most extreme occurred between the Rococo movement and the Neoclassical, the transition between the Neoclassicism and Romanticism signified a less severe but still influential change in society. A document from a citizen criticizing art during the time of both the Romantic movement and Neoclassical movement would aid in describing public opinion of the two, and the change in popularity dependent on the classes or perception of the time period. Another document from a commoner on nationalism may have also expanded the perspective of how nationalism was prominent during the time, and how this was reflected in art. Baudelaire had a strong influence on Romanticism. Romanticism is a literary and art movement that occurred during the late 18th century that emphasized imagination, emotion, and love of nature. Baudelaire really liked Romanticism although he found himself “incapable of being moved by vegetation.” During the time he wrote “salon de 1846”, Baudelaire alleged that the ideal was represented by Romanticism. In “Salon de 1846” he wrote, "Romanticism is precisely situated neither in choice of subject nor in exact truth, but in a way of feeling" (Galitz).
