Freudian/Neo-Freudian
My personality plays a big part in my life, the qualities I possess, how I am perceived by others, and how well I interact with them. I believe I have an outgoing personality, I am easy to approach and get along with and much more. As I reflect on Freud and his theory, I can agree with him in some areas, but I don’t believe that the person personality was shaped almost entirely by childhood events. He was well known for his psychoanalytic theory of personality development, believing that the personality is shaped by conflicts fundamental structures of the mind: the id, ego, and superego (Funder, 2016). Erikson believed that Freud's psychosexual theory emphasizes the importance of basic needs and biological forces, while Erikson's psychosocial theory is based on social and environmental factors (Funder, 2016). Erikson also expands his theory into adulthood, while Freud's theory ends at an earlier period (Erik Erikson, n.d.). As far as my personality, I can agree more with Erikson. The stages are more accurate for me in my adult life and they fit more to my personality. The stage of Intimacy and Isolation is the stage I am in now. I can relate with this stage because I feel like I’m in search of finding someone to be with, but more afraid that I will not find him, or he will not be the right one and then I’m back to square one of being alone. I believe that there is somebody for everybody, but the key is waiting and having patience, and one thing I can say about me is that my patience is not long with the waiting game …show more content…

I believe our personalities make up who we are and how others perceive us at times. Personalities are our own unique qualities, that we possess as individuals. In writing this short paper, I have found that psychologists use assessments to define an individual’s personality to determine their qualities and what makes them different from other individuals. Through the Big Five Personality test, I found it difficult to define and understand an individual personality
