The film that I watched was Michael Collins, Directed by Neil Jordan, I found this film to be a very interesting film regarding Irish history. I was interested in the movie from beginning to end. The actors and actresses in the movie did an outstanding job representing the roles that they were playing. Liam Neeson was an excellent Michael Collins and even bared quite a resemblance. Aiden Quinn played the role of Harry Boland and Julia Roberts played the role of Kitty Kierman. An important stand out role of Eamon de Valera was played by Alan Rickman. This film portrays Michael Collins as an Irish Patriot fighting to gain independence from the British Empire. The film breaks down the different significant events that took place between the Easter Uprising and the time of Michael Collins death.
The film begins in Dublin Ireland in the year 1916, the setting was during the Easter uprising which was a rebellion that was started by a group of Irish nationalists against the British Government that was in Ireland. Within the first few minutes of the film, the leaders of the rebellion were taken by British troops and executed by firing squad. Michael Collins at this time was not in a leadership role and therefore was not as much of a threat. He was however imprisoned along with Harry Boland for their role and after a few months, were released in December. Eamon de Valera, who was one of the leaders and played a significant role in the film, was taken to jail and put into a holding cell awaiting his execution and then Michael Collins and Harry Boland, broke him out of jail. Historically, that did not happen. Valera was sent to jail but was not executed because he was born in America and was released approximately one year later...

I believe this film covered many historical issues and even some that did not directly affect history but I found it interesting that Michael Collins and Harry Boland were very close and they both were charmed by Kitty Kiernan and that Michael Collins was actually engaged to her at the time of his death. This movie provided a lot of insight into what has happened in 19th century Ireland. The movie seems more that 90% historically accurate with the added bells and whistles to keep the audience watching but the scenarios with a few changes seem to fall in line with history. I did enjoy the film and I learned a lot from watching it with my son. I believe that this movie gave him a head start on these events that took place in 19th century history.
William Wallace was so famous among the Scots that they made a movie about him. The movie was directed by Mel Gibson, and originally written as a book by Randall Wallace. Mel Gibson played William Wallace. In the movie, William goes on his rampage against the English after his wife was attacked by an English soldier. This epic drama was so well received that it won 5 academy awards. Of course like all movies based on historical events, it was filled with assumptions and exaggerations.
The first scene takes place at Antietam Creek, Maryland Sept. 17, 1862 at The Battle of Tatum. The Union marches on foot, lead by Shaw, only to be bombarded with cannon shots and gunfire. After the battle, he was taken to a hospital where he heard Lincoln would be issuing an emancipation proclamation to free the slaves. At a house party afterwards, Robert sees Gov. Andrew meets Fredrick Douglas who tells him there is to be an all black regiment of which he would like Robert to be colonel. He asks his friend Kevin to assist him in leading this group.

To me the importance of the movie was to show what truly went on over in Vietnam through the eyes of a soldiers eyes of what happened, as the film created a very disturbing yet a real picture of The Vietnam War.
Many viewers perceived this movie as being wonderful; however, on the other hand, some film reviewers thought otherwise. Many viewers thought this movie to be great because of the action packed scenes, the adventurous outline, and the romance story. Many of the film reviewers felt that the movie itself was well done but did not appreciate the actual story. Many of the reviewers felt that the truth of the actual event was drawn away from and gave us the wrong picture. For example, Jack Mathews made the comment, “Mann turned the main dramas—the battle for Ft. The movie teaches us to look beyond the cover and into who someone is as a person. We also learn that sometimes contact with people makes us reconsider our judgement towards them, to find out the real person underneath.
In conclusion, the film is very significant as it is an excellent education tool which can be used in our schools to enhance easy understanding of the US history. The scenes involving Colia, Mrs. Boynton and Marie Foster are very crucial as they inform the present generation on the central roles of the women in achieving the right to vote among the black people in the history of the US. The scenes provide reasonable grounds on why America should celebrate the role of women in the liberation of the nation. Despite the then president of US being given credit typically by the writer of the movie, the film presents the full credit for the efforts of the civil rights movement whose efforts in white opposition could not be ignored by the US government. The authors of the film were successful in their objective of bringing into the light the road behind the liberation of the black people in the US and this is the reason I will rate it at 4/5
Michael Collins (Liam Neeson in the movie) was a product of the history created by the colonizing of Ireland and molded by the incidents of his time. In 1916, the British government ruled Ireland with a firm and cruel hand. When a group of Irish rebels staged a six-day siege at Dublin's General Post Office, only one of the leaders was able to escape execution, Eamon De Valera, an American citizen of Irish/Spanish blood. De Valera takes control of Sinn Fein after being released from prison in 1917. Michael Collins averted punishment, but while in prison became convinced that a new approach was needed to free Ireland from British rule. He formed the Irish Volunteers, who used a combination of terrorist tactics and guerilla warfare against the British. By employing espionage, using an inside informant to learn what the British plans were and what they knew about Collins and his supporters, the volunteers were able to hit the British at their weak points. His skills and talent for warfare made a major impact on the British, and he became the hero of the new Republican Movement. In the movie, Collins, talks of his, "talent for mayhem" (Michael Collins, 1996, Warner Brothers), being as much a burden as a gift.
Michael Jordan was around 14 years old when he went to The Bronx, he used to be from Queens. He was nervous about starting a new school and meeting new people but the first thing he wanted to see was the basketball team and see if he can earn a place there. He knew what he was good at but he wasn’t sure how good these kids from the Bronx where, he heard they were tough and very good but he always stayed optimistic and confident. He knew that high school was was suppose to be harder for his education, but in all honestly, he was more interested in the basketball team. Jordan was more interested in making the team for many reasons, he always thought that if he made the basketball team he would be able to make it farther in life.
I believe this movie does a good job incorporating what we have discussed in class in terms of adolescent development. Although the movie is greatly exaggerated and blown up, the movie does emphasize on key factors to the development of an adolescent. The movie depicts what it was like to be Australian in the decades of the 50’s and 60’s and the decisions of the Australian government over this period, through the journey of four Aboriginal women and one Irish man. The movie explores the treatment of indigenous people living in this era in comparison to white Australians. The unique ways in which the characters made their living provided for scrutiny, judgement and vulnerability. In the movie you see just how differently the Aboriginal community was treated compared to the white Australians during these era’s.
This movie is a wonderful production starting from 1960 and ending in 1969 covering all the different things that occurred during this unbelievable decade. The movie takes place in many different areas starring two main families; a very suburban, white family who were excepting of blacks, and a very positive black family trying to push black rights in Mississippi. The movie portrayed many historical events while also including the families and how the two were intertwined. These families were very different, yet so much alike, they both portrayed what to me the whole ‘message’ of the movie was. Although everyone was so different they all faced such drastic decisions and issues that affected everyone in so many different ways. It wasn’t like one person’s pain was easier to handle than another is that’s like saying Vietnam was harder on those men than on the men that stood for black rights or vice versa, everyone faced these equally hard issues. So it seemed everyone was very emotionally involved. In fact our whole country was very involved in president elections and campaigns against the war, it seemed everyone really cared.
This movie was inspiring and encouraging to anyone who is struggling with something. Overcoming his controversies in life became the main point of the movie. Knowing that this movie was based upon a true story inspires the people even more.
One of NBA’s all time All Star favorites, Michael Jordan, was not just about basketball all his life. Experiences in his childhood and early teens brought him to that life. His actions as an adult got him to where he is now...a millionaire. Michael Jordan was one of the best basketball players who had some bumps in his life, but overcame them to become a successful man.
Spielberg did a wonderful job with this movie. For people who expects to receive straight facts when watching historical films, this would not be the best type of movie to watch to gain knowledge from. As for one who watches as an entertainment, this movie is one that will attain your attention. Although the movie is inaccurate, with information, it has a well put together story line and is not overwhelming when the court scenes are taking place. The role of Cinque does present a possible experience of the slaves that were captured in Havana and brought to the United States of America. This movie overall had it's pros and cons, in which pros outweighed the cons.

From a different angle of view, the director made use of the theme to communicate with the viewers and the fictional characters can be considered as his tools. Besides, ample importance is given to historical and fictional characters. In short, the amalgamation of history, fantasy and romance constituted much to the film’s importance as a historical/fictional masterpiece.
