Is Social Media Good? Thousands of people are using Social Media in today’s world without knowing the consequences of using it. Everyone wants to be the best one. Have you ever wonder what Social Media can do to one’s life? Does it make the life better or worst? Does it benefit the user or harm? If you ask me, then I would say that there are more risks than benefits of social media because it decreases the amount of social interaction of people, increases the amount of cyberbullying, and violates privacy. Social Media can decrease the amount of social interaction of people with others. People are just active with their friends online, but when it will come to connect with them personally, they will not have a single topic to discuss about. It might destroy their relationship that they had before. Some might oppose by saying that people can present themselves in a way that they want people to see them (George). If the users can present themselves on the Media, why can they not present themselves to the people personally? If the user thinks that the society will judge him or her for showing his or her true self, then people are going to do that one way or other. If we Even though social media can bring you closer to those people, it destroys the relationship with the people who are reachable. It disconnects the user from the reality. Some might oppose by saying that they can learn abundant new things from social media. Social Media is not all about bullying or insulting, but it can be about exploring new things by reading someone else’s blog or posts from a news reporter. You can learn things from it that you have never heard of. I cannot argue with that; however, looking at the screen can affect your vision poorly. Looking at the screen for a long period is not good for the
Social media might help some people express how they feel. However, it makes us a self-centered culture. Technology made us more selfish and we have become more separate from people because we are shorthing texts and taking selfies all the time (Doc 7). We don’t even look up when someone is talking to us we don’t even look up from our phones and then we don’t build empathy from them. (Doc 3). It has also weakened our ability to focus on tasks because there are engineers programming your phone every minute to keep you on it (Doc 12). In overall technology is making all of us self-center by not noticing people when we talk to them and we can’t even focus on one task for long amount of time.
Furthermore, it is thought that social media lets humans connect with others and have more friends than those in the real world. However, this is not always true. People worry about their online worlds and whether people will like them. Online, people are more judgemental than real world friends, which can lead to a low self-esteem. The article “YES: Connecting Virtually Isn’t Like Real-World Bonding” by Larry Rosen states that “...our constant need to check comes from anxiety…” Obviously, technology has a negative effect on people as far as lower self-esteem and

Social media is supposed to be a way to communicate and share our lives with people that we can't see every day. It is a great invention, but it is destroying many people's lives. It has become something extremely dangerous. People feel more comfortable behind a phone or computer screen in the comfort of their home because they can say whatever they want and not be penalized for it, especially when they make themselves anonymous. Social media used to be something great and useful, but because of websites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter it has turned into something unnecessary and dangerous that is ruining people's relationships, communications, and jobs.
Social media is a great tool that helps us keep up with family and friends across the world, we can stay up to date with events big and small happening across the country. If it is used the right way it can be a powerful tool for businesses it offers ways to make a company known and keep it known. All of us have those times when we are feeling down, and there is always something on social media that can make you smile and put everything into perspective. Furthermore there are so many things that the mainstream media tries to keep from us like how much sugar is really in our drinks, what our food really consists of, and when it’s really necessary to see a doctor.
As Sherry Turkle emphasized “We are designing technologies that will give us the illusion of companionship without the demands of friendship, we turn to technology to help us feel connected in ways we can comfortably control” (“Connected, but alone?”, TED talks, 2012). This clearly tells us that people are sometimes scared to open up to their friends and family but instead they do anonymously on social media. That is because you are not judged online, but you are afraid to be judged by people in real life when you open up to them, social media as a result makes us less social as it gives us a virtual world that we can control ourselves.
Social media has changed the way people communicate with each other and in turn, has affected our ability to empathize in both negative and positive ways. One of the most harmful consequences is the rise of cyber-bullying. Another negative issue has been the trend of trolling in comments sections of websites, chat rooms, and other online venues of communication. In spite of this, there have been constructive consequences due to social media such as the ability for family and friends to keep in touch on a regular basis. Because of social media, many people are finding support and resources to help them when they fall on hard times or experience tragedies like death and illness. Overall, social media is an exciting new world that changes as it grows and it will be up to society to utilize it for good.
In summary, social media will have a negative effect despite the positive it may bring. The occasional use of social media use can lead to loss of thought, procrastination, and narcissism. Social media could probably never be completely cut out of the world. Thus, people need to manage their time better so they may have time to go onto social media after the important tasks. In other words, the use of media does not always have to be bad if one puts in mind the right
... middle of paper ... ... Social media can also affect social health; for example, it can lead to cyber bullying. Then that teen will not want to attend school because that teen is living on constant fear of being bullied. Most dangerous of all, it can give away your identity.
Although there are many positive aspects of social media, we cannot simply ignore the possible risks associated with using it. Some of these risk can have negative effects on individuals, families, and even society as a whole. Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
There are about one and a half billion users of social media worldwide. It can be used to meet new people, find old friends, chat the day away, join interest groups, or even to share pictures. Social networks were mostly created so people could meet and find new friends. What most users of social media don't know, are the dangers of using social media. One example is when you meet a person online, because they are not always who they say they are. If someone is not who you may think they are, who could they be? They can be a stalker or a person that wants to steal your identity; which could be done easily thanks to new developments of new technology. Also thanks to new technology it is now easier for people using your information to track you. Posting personal information can risk your family and friends lives. Social media can be used as a weapon against you. It can even lead to a kidnapping, or even someone's death. Many people use social media to help to waste time, but could also become an unhealthy addiction. Also social media can damage your future. When you are a teen you tend to post pretty much anything you want. This is dangerous because you can post too much personal information. What most teens don't realize is that what they do on social media now can affect them for the rest of their life. It can even come back to haunt you in the future. Social media is dangerous because it makes it easier to be stalked, identity theft to happen, kidnappings and murders, and also can ruin your future.
Even though people have different opinions on whether social media has a positive or negative impact on society, it can be said that social media has a positive effect on society as a whole because it lets people communicate with each other easily, it has been said to improve education among children, and has helped improve the economy in the world. One of the main reasons why social media has positively affected our society is because of how it has made communicating with people much easier. “Today, four out of five active internet users maintain at least one social media profile” (Moe, 3). Using these websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and etc., people talk about everything with anyone from what they are planning to do, to what they are eating and much more (Moe, 24). We can also send private messages to other users of these websites about personal matters that you just want to discuss with them.
Without social media, society would not be able to communicate with people all over the world for various reasons such as business, family, friends, relationships and many more. This is one of the few positive impacts social media has on human communication, which is true. Social media definitely helps many maintain and build relationships. It allows many to speak more freely without being scared to raise their voice. Social media allows people to be more honest, as many would not have the courage to address these situations face to
