As Steven Spielberg, a director, once stated, “Technology can be our best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of our lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because we're too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone.” He explained that technology has taken over many people’s livelihoods. Children feel that they are less supported by their parents because of the lack of communication between them. Children no longer feel the need to tell their parents about their social problems inside or outside of school. They feel a distance between themselves and their parents. They have a bigger urge to tell their friends about their problems other than the people that raised them. Technology has altered family relationships and there is also a lack of communication between each family member, especially between parents and their children.
On the other hand, the opposing side argues that it does not restrict communication but helps family members on a daily basis. Since many own cell phones, it helps the parents and the children communicate about their schedules and events that they have going on. Communication is a leading factor that alters family relationships. Some believe that it significantly benefits both the parents and the children. The world’s society as a whole revolves around technology almost every second of a day. The challenge lies in the innovation of technology increases, the more downfalls it creates. In the future, children need certain communication skills other than ones that require technological devices. No matter how advanced society might obtain, these skills will never die out.
