A child is on his way home from school. He gets of the school bus and walks inside his home to find his parents arguing. The child hears his mother yell that she and her husband are getting a divorce. Now the child is filled with sadness, anger, and depression. This child’s situation is just one example of many that occur of depression and other emotions with adolescents around the world. Depression has a negative impact on children that occur along with suicidal thoughts, anger, and violence; however, types of treatment can help to increase their quality of life and health. Those who know hold background information, and have knowledge of depression and various emotions within adolescents.

Adolescents usually find depression based on everyday life problems. Problems can vary from being bullied at school, parental divorce, death of a close friend or family member, and etc. The “assessment of vulnerability factors” in depressed and suicidal adolescents should be balanced by protective factors (CanJ 2015). Five protective factors refer to “personal characteristics, situations, and events that prevent or reduce vulnerability” to psychopathology (CanJ 2015). According to author Cole David, major depressive disorder is an important and “highly prevalent mental disorder characterized” by a lack of interest in everyday activities (2014). Depression is starting to occur more and more in younger ages and treatment seems to be limited. “Social status was assessed by peer nomination” (2014). When an adolescent is in deep depression, many other emotions and actions are quick to follow. There is some treatment to subside the depression found in teens.
