1. NAVIGATING CAREER WAYPOINTS (C-WAY). Navy Career Counselors (NCCs) now have access to an online program known as C-Way. C-Way helps Sailors to reenlist in their rating, convert to another rating if necessary, and to ensure the health of the Navy community stays stabilized including opportunity for advancement. The C-Way Program allows Navy Detailers to watch the health of each rating, the health of the community, and provides Sailors with an opportunity to view positions available if a rate conversion is necessary. This program displays current open positions, community health of that particular rate, and qualification score to that new rate. Most Sailors' applications are approved during the first or second C-Way application window. If Sailors are not selected for an in-rate reenlistment, conversion to another rate can be requested as long as that Sailor is qualified in one of the open rates during the nine to six month range. Sailors will receive four conversion looks, can choose to transition into Selected Reserve (SELRES), or separate from the Navy. Career counselors fill extremely demanding positions requiring an unusual amount of effort to accomplish their mission. The Table of Distribution (TDA) only allows one career counselor position, in every Battalion. The amount of personnel fluctuates between 300-800 Soldiers. As identified above MOS 79S, is currently experiencing a shortage causing an additional workload within a small team of NCOs adding additional stress to an already demanding position. The unique skill set a career counselor possesses are different from any other MOS. Career counselors utilize an automated system called RETAIN. Once a career counselor successfully graduates from the basic career counselor course, they receive access to RETAIN. HQDA and HRC both monitor this system. You have to be enlisted in the U.S. Navy and you need to have permission from your commanders. You have to be a least 17-28 years old. Waivers for men from age 29-30 are available for highly qualified candidates. You need to have a birth certificate, social security, high school diploma, good eyesight and you can't be colorblind and you have to be a U.S. citizen. To get a Navy contract, you need to take the ASVAB test, get a physical and get a background screening at the Military Endurance Processing Station. Once you done that, you need to get a Navy SEAL contract. Once you have signed the contract, you are eligible to take the PST. Once you pass the PST. your recruiter or mentor will request a reclassification for you into the SEAL program. The United States Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) consists of 26 Navy Recruiting Districts (NRDs) spread out throughout the Continental United States. One of the largest Recruiting Districts is NRD San Diego, which consists of 55 recruiting stations spread out throughout San Diego, Riverside, Orange County, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Yuma Arizona. The obvious mission is to recruit men and women to join the United States Navy. According to NRC webpage (2015), their mission is to “recruit the best men and women for America's Navy to accomplish today's missions and meet tomorrow's challenges” (pr. 1), Obviously, NRD San Diego shares the same mission, but there are different set of unique challenges, which trickle up from each recruiting station. World Immunization Week is celebrated at the end of April each year by UNICEF, immunization partners, and government agencies around the world. The goal of World Immunization Week is to educate the public on the importance of vaccinations, the diseases they prevent, and the risk factors involved with not vaccinating children. Social Justice Social justice views all lives as having equal value, so there is a moral justification for fair allocation from a global perspective. Vaccines keep children alive and healthy by protecting them against multiple types of diseases. Some vaccinated children may still become ill with a vaccine preventable disease, but their symptoms will be lessened due to the previous vaccinations.

There are many things that have impacted my life in a positive way as a result of my military service. For starters, joining the Navy was huge. It got me organized and opened my eyes to an entirely new world, and not just the military service world. The variety of experiences that I’ve had in the service interacting with people from all over the world has helped me grow as a person. However, from the day I entered service, one item or one rank in the structure of the Navy struck me as critical to the operation of the Navy. That item or rank was the position of the Chief Petty Officer. As I entered service I quickly discovered that the Chief was the go to guy and the old saying “ask a chief” had a profound meaning. The Chief was a leader, mentor, and an expert in just about everything, all qualities that I lacked at the time. Then, twelve or so years later, the life changing event for me of being selected as a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy came to fruition.

Vaccines have been used to prevent diseases for centuries, and have saved countless lives of children and adults. The smallpox vaccine was invented as early as 1796, and since then the use of vaccines has continued to protect us from countless life threatening diseases such as polio, measles, and pertussis. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2010) assures that vaccines are extensively tested by scientist to make sure they are effective and safe, and must receive the approval of the Food and Drug Administration before being used. “Perhaps the greatest success story in public health is the reduction of infectious diseases due to the use of vaccines” (CDC, 2010). Routine immunization has eliminated smallpox from the globe and led to the near removal of wild polio virus. Vaccines have reduced some preventable infectious diseases to an all-time low, and now few people experience the devastating effects of measles, pertussis, and other illnesses.
Experts agree that immunization is a big part of staying healthy and is considered one of the most tremendous public health accomplishments of the 20th century (Immunize for Good). Each year, about 2.1 million people die from vaccine-preventable diseases. Many children may not receive their necessary first year vaccinations because of lack of availability, religious beliefs, and safety concerns (Healy, Rench, and Baker 540). The dictionary definition of a vaccine is a biological preparation that improves the immunity to a certain disease (Healy, Rench, and Baker 540). Although all 50 States in the United States require children to be vaccinated to certain diseases before entering school, the states also have exemptions for these vaccinations (Lu 870). Parents often choose not to get their children immunized, and it has proven harmful to the health of the global population. It is important for parents to have their children vaccinated against diseases such as measles, mumps, and polio because it is important to promote the welfare of the human race (Parkins 439).
General Quarters with my Sailors! As Sailor in a leadership position I have to be able to let our sailors know what is expected of them; to question, clarify, or inform them of what is expected of them. My first goal is to continue to grow as a listener. Communication requires two individuals in order to be successful, and at bare minimum I am communicating, as well as, listening to at least fifteen Sailor’s a day. Because listening is so crucial to effective communication, I need to and want to learn more about it. We have a saying in the Navy “A bitching sailor is a happy sailor” and for the most part, it is a pretty accurate statement. One thing that I can say is that sailors like to be heard. It is given by drops in the mouth or injecting a person with a dead or modified disease-causing agent, in order for the person to become immune to that disease.
Careers are not something to be taken in a light manner as it acts as a major function in every being’s life. Career dysfunctional may results in decreased self confidence, increased interpersonal communication problems or traces of depression. According to Beverly Baskin, the term career can be defined as the the totality of work one does in one’s lifetime. Given this definition, education, family responsibilities, work and leisure activities are inclusive.
