The Nature of Man
Thomas Hobbes once wrote,“The condition of man... is a condition of war of everyone against everyone”. In William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies, a group of young boys is trapped on an island, left to fend for themselves. Two boys fall into leadership, and as savagery begins to take over, the author explores the true nature of man. Golding asserts an opinion similar to that of Thomas Hobbes: Man is born selfish and innately evil, and to prevent chaos, society must be governed with strict laws.
