Most people would agree that high school is one of the most challenging time of the teenage years. Natalie Sterling, the main character in the book Not That Kind of Girl, faces challenges similar to those of Amanda Todd. Sterling and Todd were in high school and went through difficult situations; both made choices that tested their emotional strength and forced them to closely evaluate how they would react to their circumstances. The two girls faced challenges brought on by decisions they made involving a boy. Natalie Sterling and Amanda Todd encountered similar incidents, however, discrepancies are apparent, such as how far their stories spread and how each dealt with the consequences of their actions. Natalie and Amanda’s stories are similar in the course of action they chose to pursue and the emotions they experienced as a result of those actions. Natalie, strays from her reasonable nature when conflict arises in her friendship, and finds herself getting involved in relationships she would not have under different circumstances. In her unforeseen relationship Natalie chose to go farther than she had imagined, a decision which backfired greatly when her actions were exposed to the school. Natalie’s teacher openly expressed her disdain of the situation. It is important to think before making decisions and be conscious of possible consequences that could occur as a result of your actions. It’s no secret that high school can be taxing; but, depending on how you choose to confront the challenges high school presents, the experience can also be one worth living
