Narrative Story I found a story about a man named Johnny Cruitt and his third grade teacher Cecile Doyle. This story is being told by Johnny, but Mrs. Doyle also tells a bit about her side of the story. The story starts off by Johnny explaining how one day he gets home from school and his aunt is at home. His aunt tells him that his mother has passed away. At this time Johnny was only in the third grade, so he lost his mother at a very young age. It then goes on to talk about how Johnny remembers at his mother wake someone coming over and saying, “Johnny your teacher is here.” The story then switches to Mrs. Doyle talking and she states, “When I found out she died I could certainly relate to that because when I was eleven my own father died, …show more content…

Being a teacher himself he realizes that he has this memory of his teacher who changed his life and he never told her. Therefore, he writes a letter to Mrs. Doyle explaining how she was a teacher who was there for him when he needed it and he hopes that life has been as kind to her as she was to him. He mentions how he writes the letter by hand but doesn’t believe Mrs. Doyle would approve of his penmanship, therefore he ends up typing it. Mrs. Doyle said that she received the letter a day when she came home from the hospital. Her husband had Parkinson’s and she was going through a rough time and the letter was just what she needed. It teaches us about the way the world works. It does this by reminding us that death is a part of life. Death is a part of life that is extremely serious, but with the right supports it makes it easier to cope with. In the world there is also illness which is another issue individuals need support with. It teaches us about place in the world. There are influences in our lives which shape the place we end up in the world. Mrs. Doyle changed Johnny’s life and may have been an influence on his career choice. It teaches us how to act in the word. Mrs. Doyle was Johnny’s teacher and most people would say that as a teacher you are to support your students which Mrs. Doyle did. However, others would say that because Mrs. Doyle is a teacher she shouldn’t have kissed Johnny on his head. This teaches us that there are situations in life when you don’t obey the rules. In this situation its about common humanity and comforting a person who has lost someone. Mrs. Doyle wasn’t being a teacher when she did this but rather being a human being. It teaches us to evaluate what goes on. It is important to do kind things for other when you know they are going through a difficult time. It teaches us that we make a difference in people’s life by the comments we make. It also shows how important it is to tell others what they mean to us and how much we appreciate what they do for
