We left the restaurant and went to our usual haunt to get manicures and pedicures. Luckily for us we did not need to wait and were seated right away. “Julia, wait until you see his house. You’re going to die when you see it.” “I’m sure I’ll see things that will scar me for life.” She replied and broke out laughing. “You’re having a lot of fun at my expense today,” I said as I swatted her. “How much money does this guy have? What kind of money are we talking about?” Julia said as she debated polish colors. “A lot of money. I don’t know; I didn’t ask him.” “Is he trying to buy you?” She asked seriously. “Why would he have to do that? He’s unbelievably gorgeous and loaded. He could have anything he wanted. She looked angry -- she looked enraged. Mrs. Whitcomb pointed her finger at me and snarled, “I’ll tell you what the matter is. I don’t know who you think you are or what kind of neighborhood you think we live in. I thought you were a nice girl, but clearly you’re not. You 've been cavorting indecently with two men.” She shook her head at me and shoved her finger at me again continuing, “I saw you kiss them both outside here the other day, and I know they both stayed at your house last night. I saw them leave together this morning. You 're trash, and I’m not going to tolerate this behavior next door to my house.” I just stood there aghast at what I was hearing. I was going to cry; she was going to make me cry. Julia bolted in front of me and stared the very irate Mrs. Whitcomb down. “I don’t know who the hell you think you are barging in here telling someone how to live her life behind closed doors. You need to mind your own business and worry about yourself and not attack someone who has never done anything, but be kind to you. Now get out of here and go home, or I’ll call the cops and tell them you are a trespasser.” Julia …show more content…

She reached out and rubbed my back and said, “I found Charlie’s number in your phone. I called him; he and David are on their way over here.” In between sobs I said to her, “ This is what I have been worried about and dreading. It 's exactly why I’ll have to live a lie out in public. People won’t understand. We 're only newly in this relationship, and it’s already happening.” “Annalisa, she 's a nosy old bag. Don’t let the likes of her ruin any of this for you. She has no real bearing on your life, so who cares what she thinks of you.” She stood up, started pacing and continued, “You’re going to need thicker skin for this. You’re going to have to accept the probability of things like this happening if this is the life you choose.” “I know.” I cried and added, “I just didn’t expect this to happen today -- I didn’t expect it so soon.” “Can you handle this Annalisa? Do you really think you’ll be able to handle all of this?” She asked, and I could hear her concern for me in her voice. I just sat there and cried trying to figure out if I could handle it. Would everything I 'd be able to have with them be worth the struggle I would face out in the real world? “They will protect me.” I finally said. “I’m sure they will, but they can’t protect you every minute of the
