The story of the search Every night we experience them. They have the power to make us feel happy, sad or even terrified. They are dreams. But what really are dreams? I chose to research dreams because we all experience them and I realized just how little I knew about them even though I dream every night. I walk to school and on days when my friend isn’t walking with me my mind tends to wander so of course I eventually landed on dreams. I made some conclusions myself but wanted to be sure so when the opportunity to research it for a project arose I took it. Prior to research, most of what I knew, or thought I knew were fun facts and tidbits I’d heard along the way or concluded myself. I knew that dreams are experiences that happen in the unconscious mind. I thought you dream every night but depending on REM cycles you may remember most, some of none of your dreams. Dreams often contain our fears, desires and unchecked emotions. I had concluded more on my own that familiar places look completely different but somehow you know where you are. It was called What Ae Dreams? and for some reason the video was backwards but I used the concept of Leonardo da vinci's mirror writing (were he wrote backwards so none could read his notes over his shoulder) to set up my iPad up so I could watch its reflection and it would be the right way. The documentary was close to an hour and probably my most informative source. I filled all of my remaining note cards and had to double up some information on other cards when I ran out. A New Kind of Dreaming is a novel written by Anthony Eaton, about a teenage boy, Jamie Riley, being referred to rural Western Australia where, he meets new friends, enemies and also discovers a shocking secret about the towns head police officer. The pressure to find out the secret puts Jamie in a great deal of trouble, from being frightened by the police, blamed for a fire and vandalism offences and even going missing in the desert. The characters have authority or are defenceless.

This theory is from Sigmund Freud, an interesting psychologist with a different aspect of the human psyche. Part of Freud 's theory I find most intriguing is the dream analysis portion. I believe that dreams are the link to the unconscious. Which makes it easier to understand where Freud is coming from with his logic in using this technique to analyze what a person is feeling. The psychoanalytic theory looks closely into the unconscious portion of a person 's mind, which I agree can reveal multiple troubles that would not be found if you didn 't look deep into the patients thoughts and memories. The theory had some downfalls as well as these great aspects.

Well, it is the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. However, can everyone really achieve it? Yes, anyone can achieve the American Dream with enough hard work and dedication to pursue a good life. In order to maintain the American Dream there are some important ways to achieve it. Such as: a strong work ethic, a good education, and being determined.

After the research, I learned that while most dreams are fairly coherent, patterned, which include everyday settings, people, activities, and events, they may involve relatively unusual and perhaps bizarre aspects. Altogether, these images would allow people to have the most revealing and distinctive view of who they are and what they know in daily life by telling stories in the brain. However, while I still feel that no theory can exactly interpret what dreams’ meanings really are, it is interesting to know more how human brain’s activity (dreaming) function when people sleep. Moreover, I have decided to see my dreams as a television show with different episodes at night. What’s interesting though, is that during studies in which participants were woken on a regular basis, scientists found that the dreams remembered the following morning were “more coherent, sexier, and generally more interesting” than the dream descriptions that were collected in data for research. As Blackburn says, dreams are not as coherent as everyday life, they are shakier. Similar to this, Descartes says that dreams are like a painting. Objects could look like they are real; made in the fashion of those in the waking world, so therefore they have to be real giving a basis for scientific observations. These corporeal objects give rise to concentrations of science such as astronomy, medicine, physics, that use the observations that could seem doubtful if we are to take the dreaming argument into consideration without allowing for the fact that dreams must be based on waking life, and others, such as mathematics and geometry, are still unquestionable no matter if you try to base the dream off of reality. As Descartes says, “where I am awake or asleep, two and three added together are five.” Taking all of this into consideration, whether or not one is dreaming some science still remains, meaning observations are still viable in scientific knowledge. So my answer that you may use observations with care and thorough study still holds true, because even in a dream state there is still rational mathematics and science based off of reality. Along with these facts, many dream states can be recognizable through their slight disillusionment from everyday life, leading to one to realize they are asleep (lucid dreaming), which is not
Oprah Winfrey once said, “The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened.” But, what actually is a dream and what do dreams really have to do with one’s everyday life? In essence, a dream is a series of mental images and emotions occurring during a slumber. Dreams can also deal with one’s personal aspirations, goals, ambitions, and even one’s emotions, such as love and hardship. However, dreams can also give rise to uneasy and terrible emotions; these dreams are essentially known as nightmares.

Although we have a better understanding today because of influential psychologists such as Freud and Hall, we still do not have any concrete reasoning for or complete agreement on dream’s true purpose. Some people side with the Freudian ideals of dreams as a practical necessity for existence while others side with Hall’s opinion that dreams serve as learning devices. After completing my research I believe that dreams not only serve both those purposes, but most likely have many more purposes and roots as well. The complexity of and intricacy of dreams leads me to believe they are not meaningless exercises performed by the brain, but deeply meaningful and useful keys to our existence. I think there are many more secrets to be unlocked and revealed by the studying of dreams.
