Me, and my friend named Matt were talking about sports one day last year, when our conversation took a drastic turn into an argument. The sport of topic was Basketball, and it was about a week before the NBA Finals. I was saying how the Los Angeles Lakers were going to take the whole playoff championship with out a loss. He on the other hand was a Philadelphia fan, and wanted to see the 76ers beet the Lakers in the NBA finals. I thought it was preposterous for him to say the Lakers would loose the NBA Finals, after not loosing one game on the way there. And so our argument started there.
We were both sitting on the couch, watching T.V. flipping through the channels, and came up on ESPN Sports Center. We started watching it, and they started to talk about the NBA Finals, and the possible outcomes. I said out loud “There’s no way the Lakers could loose!” I wasn’t talking to anyone in particular, and I was giving the Lakers praise. My friend Matt said, “What the hell are you talking about? Just because they haven’t lost yet, doesn’t mean they are going to sweep the entire series!” He had a very negative tone, and was very aggressive in his statement. It was like he was looking for an argument. Matt is the type of person who always looks for an argument.
I said in return, “What do you mean, the Lakers haven’t lost a game yet. They have swept through the entire playoffs, and were 5-0 in the games before the playoffs even started.” I had used a great supporting defense in hopes to ease the situation; yet, it made it turn even sourer. Matt said, “Well, have you seen any of the 76ers playoff games? They have won each game in the final game of each series. They pull through at the very end each time. How could they work so hard, and then let it all go at the finals?” Matt was using some good specifics, and it was normally unlike him to have such a profound argument. Usually he will just try to be so aggressive that I will just give up because I don’t want the outcome to result in a fight.
Matt Dillon right from the start of "Loch invar" demonstrates that he has a rough hard personality. With his harsh quick responses to whomever he meets, to some extent makes him seem unfriendly and unsociable to whomever he is talking to. Throughout the three shows we see that Matt Dillon is a man that likes to stay to himself. He doesn't like to respond much to inquiries or comments; it seems like he picks his conversations carefully. For example, in the episode of "Paid Killer", Chester is worried and anxious that walking around at midnight with a full moon could possibly result in a fatality.
there are many things you can compare and contrast between the superbowl and the NBA finals their are many things you can compare between these two,the superbowl is better for a lot of things, Halftime, also the team winning the trophy , like the Denver Broncos and the New England patriots. Dont forget about the roaring fans in the superbowl, they get louder and louder and go home with sore throats. NBA finals, their are some good teams also good players which ever you consider best. NBA finals fans are alright, they only get crazy in the fourth quarter because thats when the players really put in effort. why wait until the last twelve minutes to really start playing.
Hoop Dreams is a story about two young men who want to become basketball players in the NBA. The author Ben Joravsky wrote the book. The idea for the book came from the documentary movie, Hoop Dreams, which is a true story. Arthur Agee and William Gates are the names of the two boys who were followed from eighth grade to twelve grade to do the movie. Arthur Agee was a 5'6 125 pound guard from the playgrounds of Chicago when St Joseph recruiters saw him. Arthur was playing against guy's three years older than he was and he was still the best in the neighborhood. Arthur's parents Bo and Sheila Agee were very poor people who were on cocaine and could not support their family. Big Earl, the guy who recruited Arthur told his family that St. Joe's would be able to pay Arthur's tuition if he played basketball for them. Arthur went to St. Joe's and met William Gates. They had become friends in grade school but had never really done anything together. Eventually William turned out to be the better player and all the attention and money was focused on him. Therefore, Arthur was booted out of St. Joe's in the middle of the school year. He was forced to enroll at Marshall, the area public school. As a result, Arthur could see his dreams of the NBA were slipping away. Along with that, he couldn't keep his grades up enough to attend a Division I school. He and the Marshall Commandos ended up going downstate Arthur's senior year. They finished third in the state overall. Arthur ended up going to a junior college named Mineral Area in Flat River Mississippi. After his two years in Mississippi, Arthur received a scholarship to Arkansas State. He finished his degree in communications and he graduated. Arthur never did reach his dream of going to the NBA, at least yet. As you can see, it takes a lot for an inner city boy to try and reach his dream, but most of the time it never happens. William Gates was also 14 when he was recruited to go to St. Joseph. He and Arthur both had to wake up around 5:30 every morning so they could get on the subway to make it to school in time.

So before you go out there on the court, you got to work this out amongst yourselves.” At that time, all the players confront Brian about the issues they have with him and tell him to leave. As he’s leaving, Gary tells him to not walk out on the team, but Brain exclaims, “What team.” Gary follows him telling Brain to handle this situation like men. Brain tell his teammates that he doesn’t play for them, so Gary tells him he is right then asks him who he plays for and keeps badgering him about it until he answers the question and Brian tell Gary that he plays for his big brother Ray. He tells his team about his brother’s story about how he was a great player and how a drunk driver had killed him. Brian tells them that its there is a lot of pressure to fill his brother’s shoes and that his father has worked him so much to try to fill them and has to make his dad proud. After hearing Brian talk about his situation, his teammates tell him that they got his back and that they’re his brothers now. I agree his Coach Collins’ method he used because it brought Brian and the team together as a whole. Sometimes, when you have a coach yelling at you all the time, you need the coach to step aside
Most people in todays’ society know how competitive the NBA can be. The NBA has been around for years and years and is now beginning to be more competitive than in previous years. So many teams have so much talent that some know how to use perfectly and some use it to a minimum. The NBA has different positions like Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward and Center. These positions require specific training and skills to know how to do. Some people have the talent for one position while some people can have the talent for all positions. After winning his third consecutive NBA championship, at the pinnacle of his career, Michael Jordan, on October 6, 1993, announced his retirement from the NBA. The entire sports world was in complete shock. Jordan stated, that he had accomplished everything he wanted, winning three straight world championships, he had no more to prove in the game of basketball. Jordan stated that he simply “lost his desire to play the game” leading him to retirement, when most least expected it. Although, it was not all smooth sailing for Michael, he had to persevere through various challenges throughout his career.
In the 90-91 season, Phil Jackson’s coaching philosophies began bringing unexpected results. The Bulls had the most creative offensive force in the history of the game in Jordan; they also stressed defense and team work. With their creative player they lost the first three games then never lost more than two in a row after that. In February, they won eleven games, lost one then won nine more which put them at a record of 50-15(year by year). In the 1991 finals, the matchup between the Chicago Bulls and the LA Lakers was a game of the best two teams in NBA history. The Lakers won the first game by a last second three point shot by Sam Perking. After losing the first game, the Bulls won four games in a row, therefore, making them the 1991 NBA champions. When I was little everyone told me I would make a great lawyer, they said I loved to argue. For a long time I believed them, I do love to argue. However, the older I got the more I realized that it wasn’t the arguing I loved, it was the dialog. How two people can have the exact same experience, but have two totally different views about that experience baffled me. When I was in high school I struggled with some things that I didn’t quite understand at the time. I didn’t understand why my teammates would listen to my male co-captain instead of me even when we said the exact same thing. The ball comes speeding over the net and slams down onto the face of the court landing just beyond the base line, the line running along the back of the court. I had called her winning point... "out." As I turned towards her, I could see the anger building in her eyes. We walked towards each other, and with only the net separating us, she began to confront me. She argued that, as she saw it, the ball was obviously in and that we should replay the point. I wanted this game as much as she did and we were both standing strong. I finally decided that there was no use in fighting. We had to resolve this argument between ourselves because there were no line judges to decide for us. We decided to replay the point and she won. I tried to convince myself that there would be times when a call would be questionable and that I should try not to point fingers. I still went home discouraged that night because I knew that the call I had made was fair.
The National Basketball Associations, Golden State Warriors are approaching history. They are the number 1 ranked team in the league and the quest for winning a record 73 games is well within reach. The keys they play by have helped them be the success they are. The consistent 3 point shooting threat has left many shaking their heads in disbelief. Always making the extra pass has allowed them to strive on and off the ball. Most importantly teamwork both on offense and defense has led them to be ranked among the league’s best in both. As long as the Golden State Warriors keep shooting the three point shot the way they have been, along with great passing and teamwork they will pass the record held by the 1995-1996 Michael Jordan led Chicago bulls team.
Other than the trademark short shorts of the 70’s and 80’s, the game of basketball has drastically changed over time. Even the high-flying, basketball pro, Michael Jordan acknowledged that today’s game is not what it used to be, paying homage to areas that surpassed, but also the areas that, he believed, worsened. Many embrace these new changes, however, there are still many who believe that the NBA is slowly withering away and losing its edge; which will you be?
Finally Friday came. The tournament lasted for about three hours, peppered with constant complaints, arguments, and threatened fist fights. To my own disbelief, we lost -- by one point! For the rest of the night I rationalized our loss by creating stories of how they must have cheated, accented by remarks about the character blemishes of their mothers. I just kept saying that we were still the best and it didn't matter that we had lost. By the end of the night no one was speaking to me, not even my partner in the competition. I finally snuck off and went home. All the way, I could feel myself choking on ...
It was November 1st and it was the day of my last volleyball game. I ran into my friend Eri and we started talking about the game later that day. It was against Tunkhannock. They were the best volleyball team from our area, and wouldn’t you know it on our senior night we had to play against them. Senior night was the one night where the seniors were recognized, whether they were good or not. The whole day the team was joking about how much we would lose by against our rival team. In a game to fifteen we thought we would end up owing them points.
