This essay will explore the concept of myths and whether or not it allows the teachings of Christianity to be understood much more coherently and clearly in today’s modern world. Within Christianity itself there are many diverse and separate divisions and schools of thought, however Liberal Christianity, Biblical Literalism and fundamental Christianity are the most relevant regarding the concept of myths. Literalists believe the Bible’s teachings and stories as word for word true, whilst Liberalists see it more as a metaphorical interpretation of events which, whilst they may not be true, do carry the same message that Christianity preaches. Many argue that the teachings of Christianity are too far out of date to properly understand in our modern age, mostly because the myths from which they originate are based in a world that is completely different from ours in terms of societal and scientific rules and norms.
