Mythology Writing Assignment I never imagined myself as having anything in common with any of these gods, goddesses, or mythical characters since the majority of them deal with blood, guts, war, power, and revenge. Nevertheless, I continued with my quest. After a thorough search, not one emerged that I could relate to, but during my research, I stumbled across a 10-question Internet quiz stating it could match me with a god or goddess. That’s the route I decided to take. Accordingly, I completed the quiz and learned that the goddess Athena and I had the most in common. I could not believe it! Zeus believed Metis would bear a child who would become more powerful than he, so he swallowed Metis. He didn’t realize that Metis was already pregnant. So while in Zeus’s stomach, Metis began making armor and weapons for her child. This caused Zeus to have powerful headaches, leading him to ask Hephaestus to split open his head to stop the pain. When Hephaestus cleaved Zeus’s head, Athena leaped from Zeus’s head, fully grown and armed. As the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skills, Athena played an important role in Greek mythology.
