A myth is a narrative about sacred reality and its relationship to humanity. This is usually paired with a message that conveys a meaning or purpose of human life. A myths function is to disclose a perceived truth about basic elements of the human condition. It can cover our meaning and purpose on earth as humans and also bring forth a problem/solution dynamic that aims to teach us what is good and what is evil. We are given two very different scenarios that try to explain how our world was brought into existence and myth plays a very big part in one but not so much the other. This describes the creation of our world and later, in the book of Exodus, the story of Adam and Eve. Many people nowadays have a strong belief that the book of Genesis should not be interpreted in a literal fashion due to the fact that it is written in a poetic format and is not a literal story of events that truly may have happened. I feel as though there are also many Christians who fall under the belief that the story of Adam and Eve binds fact and fiction and is intended to serve as way to convey a specific truth.
