I attend First Baptist Church, Montgomery. In the essay I will describe the church leadership, the church history, our doctrine and theology, and the ministry, missions, and evangelism.
Unlike Methodist, Catholics, and Episcopal, Baptist are very independent. We choose our minister, own our buildings, and are responsible for our own debts. We have a congregational government. This means that our leaders are put into their positions by a vote of the congregation. We have a team leadership, composed of Deacons, a Pastor, and Church Councils, that work together to make decisions. Although Baptist have no set educational requirements, our current Pastor, Jay Wolf, has been to college seminary and has a doctorate.
First Baptist has a rich and vibrant history. Baptist started with the Protestant Reform Movement Our Church existed before our denomination, Southern Baptist, was created. The Baptist Church was started with the Protestant reform movement along with the Lutherans and the Presbyterians. A group of Baptist split off from the main group because they thought that they should be allowed to have slaves. This group became known as the Southern Baptist and had their first meeting in May of 1845. First Baptist was established in the November of 1829 by Lee Compere. Lee Compere worked with the Creek indians in 1823, then came to Montgomery, bought a farm, and started First Baptist. First Baptist is also the founding church of Martin Luther King’s church, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and one of our preachers did the inauguration prayer for Jefferson Davis

...e, First Baptist Sent a group to Jacmel, Haiti. After seeing the devastation that was present, the group knew that First Baptist need to get involved. We founded an orphanage to care for those who had lost their parents during the earthquake. This orphanage provides a safe place for the kids to grow up and it also presents an opportunity to teach them about their savior, Jesus Christ. All that have taken a mission trip to Haiti have been deeply touched. Jay says that First Baptist is very much a James 2 Church. James 2 says that no matter who you are with, be they rich or poor, you should treat them well and not show favoritism. Jay says that the only way to be an authentic christian is the follow Jesus and Jesus’ greatest commandment was to go and make disciples of all nations. How can we call ourselves Christians if we do not follow the Great Commission?
The New Salem Association of the Old Regular Baptist was established in the year of 1825 in Eastern Kentucky. The New Salem Association is still going strong today. Most associations today are a branch from the New Salem Association. There are a few Old Regular Baptist churches that are private; basically they do not belong to any association. The New Salem Association is in correspondence with several other Associations which is as followed Union, Old Indian Bottom, Sardis, Philadelphia, Northern New Salem, and Friendship.
Although the history of Haslett Community Church may not be as long and storied as other churches, it is nevertheless a rich history. The roots of our community church began to grow on March 23, 1954 when several persons met at the home of Conrad and Rose Haney to discuss the need for a new church in Haslett. An open meeting was held at the Township Hall on March 31, 1954 to plan for a church. At that meeting, forty-nine people elected a steering committee and planned for services. One month and two days later on April 25, 1954, and one week after Easter, one hundred forty five people attended the first worship service and Sunday school above the old Township Hall and fire station on the northeast corner of Haslett and Okemos Roads. For the first year or so, guest ministers provided most of the sermons. Occasionally there would be a fire call and the siren would blow, interrupting the service. This always delighted the young children.

Parishioners often ask me if there is really any difference between United Methodist and the Baptists down the road. The answer, “quite a lot,” generally surprises them. When they ask me to explain, I often point them in the direction of our polity and the theology it reflects.
The thesis of the book Deep and Wide by Adam Stanley is simply put as making a church that the unchurched can’t resist to attend. This book may cause controversy in some Christian circles by leaving a traditional church view of the church’s purpose being for the churched, however, in this paradigm shift Stanley presents that the church’s purpose should be to reach the unchurched in order for people to receive the Gospel that would never step foot into a traditional church. Stanley has shown results with this mission and method by North Point Churches growth from its start with him as a church planter and senior pastor. Deep and Wide challenges the pastor to refocus and seriously convict them
In my paper I will talk about my visit to The Community Church at Murphy's Landing (CCML). I have chosen this particular Church because it is a family church type and my neighbor goes there and she encouraged me to go with her. I went there with my neighbor on April 6, 2014.This church is an appropriate for this assignment because the people there are welcoming me with an open heart and they are willing to help and provide me with information. When I visit the Church’s site I read these words “We know visiting a new church can be intimidating. But, we want to help you to be as comfortable as possible when and if you join us”. The people gather in the church weekly to glorify God in joyful worship. The expressions of worship on CCML take many forms a prayer, a hymn of reverent awe, a guitar ringing with a chorus of praise, or a warm handshake and a welcoming smile. Their weekly services begin at 9:30 each Sunday at church. Also, they have weekly podcast if anyone wants to listen online. They have many types of services for parents, kids and students. People at CCML were so friendly; they gather around me and start welcoming me, one by one. People there introducing themselves to me, one after another and provide me with their contact information and help. Then we start talking about the church services and Christianity in particular. The mission of CCML was knowing, growing and loving. They seek to live out our mission by worshipping together as a local community of believers, growing in spiritual maturity through discipleship, education, and small groups, caring for one another within the context of the larger church body and small groups, and Communicating the love of Christ to our world, both through local outreach and global mis...

In the book The New Guidebook for Pastors, James W. Bryant and Mac Brunson do a magnificent job of identifying and explaining the practical nuts and bolts that make a successful pastorate and a fruitful church.

Becoming a Christian is considered by many to be the greatest thing that one can do in life. Praying, worshipping God, and studying His word are all valuable parts to a walk in faith. Yet, some tend to forget an important action that should take place to attest a stand for Christianity. Baptism is an act of confirming that one is a Christian while symbolizing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Through the teachings of the Bible and Jesus, it is apparent that the Southern Baptist view of baptism is the most accurate to the symbolization of Christ’s perfect resurrection and declares the public statement to necessary to affirm the relationship with Jesus. While baptism is not necessary for salvation, but does assert the example that Christ portrayed.
Growing up, I was raised in a southern Baptist church setting. Every Sunday you were required to attend church which included going to Sunday school, first service, and second service. You were also required to be active in the church whether it be ushering or singing in the choir. For my foreign experience of worship I decided to attend a Catholic church. At first I was a bit skeptical about stepping outside of my background history of worship because I thought that attending a Catholic church may change some of my beliefs or practices. I will admit before my attendance to this Catholic Church I had negative thoughts and was determined that my paper would be only about negative experience that I had. Once I entered the church all of my negative thoughts were out of my mind. Prior to researching background information I really didn’t think that Catholics and Baptist had a lot in common, besides their belief in the faith of Jesus Christ. In my essay about my Catholic Church experience I will describe the physical setting of the church, tell you about the church service, and lastly tell
The first deals with Caring, within this function a leader should look to see if he is restoring, feeding, watering, grooming, shearing, delivering labs, leading, and protecting the flock.
