My Writing Skills Have Improved

Throughout this semester, my writing skills have improved. I came into this class as an immature writer but by practicing certain skills such as being able to execute and understand writing as a process, being able to explain and critique my capacities for reflection and meta-cognition, and my ability to classify and critique my capacities at evaluating and selecting sources I’ve become a better writer. I’ve come to understand that writing is a process. Writing a great piece doesn’t happen overnight, in one sitting. Writing a good paper means you write it a couple times, different drafts are involved, and you remove and add information. You revise and keep revising until you think you’ve got it. Good writing comes on the rewrite, its fixing draft after draft and tweaking words. Back in High School I knew that writing was a process, a painful process at times that resulted in beautiful results. I’ve had to write papers for my American Literature class and my British Literature class, and even for my Humanities and Psychology class. My English teacher back home truly believed in drafts and outlines. As a growing writer I’ve learned that to have a great piece, you need an introduction, and in that introduction your thesis, then you need body paragraphs that explain and develop your thesis more, and then you have your conclusion. I’m glad that I am I was able to continue sharpening my skills in wringing this semester. In all my essays I was supposed to hand in different drafts and revise my drafts, and have them peer-reviewed before handing in the final one. Sometimes I don’t catch the mistakes I make and others do. In my first essay, the reflective essay I wrote about a certain Saturday routine that I had back home in Haiti. I had ... ... middle of paper ... ...ig idea that hopefully solve all the problems that it had. Before I put a piece of information in my essay I searched different sites to make sure I was right. “ According to Annual Report and IBIS World, the decline in industry sales is “ due to competition form e- commerce sites, department stores and discount retailers. “ The CRAAP test had a huge impact on my analytical essay, because just like my informative essay I conducted the CRAAP test for my sources, making sure they were reliable, correct, up-to-date, and unbiased information. Now I can truly quote Mary Pipher in my life, “As I struggled with the writing, I learned more about writing.” Because I pushed myself to do things that I haven’t done before, and because I persevered in my writing and embraced my struggles the more I learned about becoming a better writer, and the better I got at being a writer.
