For example, I have improved my pre-writing skills so I can write much more easily when I really start writing. Furthermore, professor and students in this class are really nice, so I have gotten a lot of helps from them; their helps motivate me to keep enhancing and improving myself. However, this is the worst class for me because English 1A is the most challenging class for me since I still have many writing weakness.
Before I came to English 101 I was more of a raw writer than most people. Although I would write my papers filled with great content, I would also have many problems with my grammer and organization. Throughout my time in this class I have developed and trained multiple areas of my writing. Some of the areas that I have improved the most have been grammer, organization, and MLA format. These areas have lead to an evolution in my writing that has given me a new level of understanding in English.
Back when I started high school, I cringed at the thought of writing essays. I did not know how to convey my thoughts through my writing efficiently. After sophomore year, I was more confident about my writing. It was not until junior year, however, that my writing drastically improved. IB English 11 taught me to be a more analytical thinker and refined my skills as a writer along with enhancing some of my weakness like transitions and vocabulary.
This way I can feel more confident about my skills as a college student but as well as a strong writer. My strengths are that I can organize my essays much better which can lead to writing the paper as a hassle free assignment. Planning out what I’m writing has proved to be an effective way to writing better essays. Even though the grades I’ve gotten back have not been impressive I do know I’m on the right track to success. During the beginning of the semester I was dealing with a lot of roommate situations, I couldn’t focus on studies because I was worried about being tormented in the room.
Having a professor with high standards in his students in their writing skills really made me push myself the hardest I have ever pushed myself in a writing course. The work in this portfolio shows that I have improved in using methods of organization and sentence structure. Although I made drastic improvement in my organization and sentence structure methods, I have much more room for improvement in my writing skills, and also need to improve my essay planning and writing my essays on time. Strengths and weaknesses are possessed amongst all people, but only the most significant ones stick out the most. My biggest strength as a writer is my ability to learn from mistakes and capitalize on them.
This semester I was able to flourish as a writer due to essays given in class. I am now better able to analyze prompts and to communicate my ideas better on paper. Although my writing has drastically improved, it has not always been that way. As evident through past essays, my writing was poorly structured and contained spelling errors. Also through practice this semester I was better able to write a concrete thesis statement, something I was puzzled with in my previous English courses.
I was not able to go over with the essay so I had a lot of mistakes in sentence structure. One thing I would like to improve is that some of my sentences are too wordy including the thesis and tøpic sentence. On the other hand, I still have done a fine job on the thesis development and providing support into it. Those two have worked well since the thesis and its evidence connect to each other which made my essay a well- constructed one. Furthermore, the practice in class
The essay was easy for me to write because it was about something that I experience. Even though it was easy I had some mistakes which were grammar and sentence structure. These problems always show up in my essays which I 've been trying to work on. For my grammar issues, I have a bad habit to not proofread my essays which bring down my grade. I understand why my essays always need improvement.
Furthermore, I had others that I was at standard level at them, yet, they needed a lot of improvement in many ways. Last year, as for memorable things that teachers told me, was that I had a lot of trouble in the thesis statement structure, which however, affected the rest of the writing. Knowing all my mistakes now, moreover getting more advice this year, I hope that I will make huge progress. As for the present, during writing an essay I usually jot down my ideas on a piece of paper, next I prepare a peaceful environment, which I could easily get out my concentration, which is usually on a suitable desk in my room. The surrounding that I must have to write, is a well lighted room, where I am all alone without any distracting noise.
Throughout high school writing papers and essays were very difficult for me, almost every assignment I would seek help from others. Whether it was from my fellow students, family members, or teachers, their advice helped me tremendously. My senior year I took a Creative Writing course, which I believe helped me a lot, because I would struggle to write a paragraph, but now I can put a paper together. Coming into college I knew writing was a major skill to conquer, but I still feel like I can improve a lot yet. Furthermore, my critical reading skills need much improvement, I have no problem reading a passage or book; however, I do have trouble with comprehending what I read.
