Costa Rica is a very beautiful and unique place. It was my first time going there and I loved it! It was much different than the United States in ways I didn’t mind or even enjoyed. We saw many things and went many places while we were down there. I am ready to go back again already and do new, exciting things. However, we did a lot while we were down there.
Our first stop was San Jose. We arrived late at night, so after we checked into the Don Carlos and found our rooms, a group of us went to go find food. We ended up eating at a pretty fancy restaurant about a block away from the hotel. It was pretty expensive and it was late at night so we got a pizza to go, but this would be nothing like the other things we would eat. The next day we went to the Jardin de Meriposas, or butterfly garden. They have many different kinds of beautiful butterflies. We had a guide talk to us about a lot of the different kinds as well as the different plants and their purposes for all of the different butterfly species. He even showed us an effective way to catch butterflies without harming them. We also rode around and looked at some of the historical landmarks and buildings around the town. For lunch, we stopped and went into the market. There we had our first of many traditional Costa Rican meals. I got arroz con pollo, or chicken and rice. They eat a lot of chicken with rice and beans. Throughout the rest of the market it was extremely crowded with vendors all around. We returned to the hotel that afternoon. Mark and I went to check out the park nearby and returned for salsa class. That was fun, but definitely a work out. We did more than just salsa. We also did some traditional Costa Rican dances which were very fast paced. We relaxed and packe...

It is much more affordable than in the United States, with college being only about $200 a semester. These are important things to Costa Ricans as well as soccer. I have known that it is very important in other countries such as these, but that really became apparent driving past the soccer stadium in Heredia on game day as well as watching parts of the game. The Costa Ricans get very excited and go all out with what they wear. Some people even made flags and were selling them on the side of the road. The group of people I went with made the trip a lot of fun as well. I think we all became very close and made great new friends. I cannot wait to go back to visit the wonderful country of Costa Rica.
