My Strengths and Weaknesses as a Writer
There are no perfect writers on the planet we call Earth. Perfect in which they have no weaknesses in their writing. Everyone has their own highs and lows pertaining to their writing abilities. Through my experiences with writing essays in high school, I noticed a few strengths and weaknesses in my writing.
The primary strength in my writing is the structure. To be concise with wording comes effortlessly to me, and therefore I do not ramble on to tangents. Another strength of mine is writing about topics that interest me. In these cases I can spill all my thoughts out onto paper and do not need to worry about having enough sentences. On the other hand, I also have a couple weaknesses. Writing is difficult to commence when you have no

The class divided into groups of four and edited each other’s rough drafts. The activity was an eye-opening experience because their comments towards my essay assisted me while I created the final re-draft. Several of the comments were positive and pointed out that the structure, organization, and examples given were well done and thought out. This feedback gave me a sense of satisfaction with my essay. I was thankful that one of the reviewers pointed out that the thesis was missing at the end of the first paragraph. The thesis that I constructed was placed at the beginning of the first paragraph. I rearranged my sentences and added a proper introduction to correct the structure of the essay. The editing took a while, but I was pleased with the final outcome. Without the peer review process I would not have noticed this major mistake. With future essays, I will be turning to my classmates for advice because hearing feedback from other points of view is helpful. I will consider every comment that I receive, knowing that working on them will allow me to produce a higher quality of
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. The articles I read are typically the ones that present new ideas or start arguments. This is one of my strengths that I am very proud
When it came to the process of writing my first, second, and third essay’s, there was clear visual improvement that I have become a better writer in certain aspects. As for essay one, I tended to rely on my writing skills as a high school student rather than use the components of a successful college student essay. This was definite once I received the feedback given by ...
Over my career of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. Through my years of schooling people have determined my main weaknesses and strengths that I should work on with my writing. My biggest weakness is writing introductions and conclusions they must be so complicated and require so much thought to be defined as good. I excel at writing body paragraphs and explaining all the facts that back up your main ideas though.
This essay taught me that even though I was learning a lot from this course, that there was still room to improve. Likewise, I ended up with the assumption I had done great on this essay since I wrote about a topic I enjoyed, makeup. I was proven wrong. The evaluation paper called for evaluating and expanding on the quotes you had provided in your paper, something I wasn’t as familiar with until this class. I didn 't do so well on this particular essay but I had the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. Mrs.Robinson gave a get out of jail free card when she said we could rewrite one of our first three essays and this was the essay I chose. After revising this essay, I truly feel like I understand more about the editing process. I went back and checked each paragraph to make sure everything was perfect, changed word choice, and looked over and over for grammatical errors. Because of this I now know that I need to revise the essay before I turn it in since every writer makes
... my strengths and weaknesses as a writer, I have changed my writing process and strategies, and I have recognized what I have learned and what I would like to write about in the future. I may not be an amazing writer nor an expert writer, but I have come so far in learning how to write from not knowing anything about how to write properly to knowing most of what I need to know to write properly. My life has been impacted so much by the experience of learning everything that I know about writing and I know that it will serve me well in the future when it will be extremely important to know how to write. I also know that I will improve my writing and keep using this writing process as long as I live. Like Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” And with this education, that is exactly what I plan to do.
Writing has never been my strong suit. I’ve always been more of a math girl. I just feel math comes easier to me, because in math there is one solution to a problem. It would be less frustrating for me if there was a clear formula in writing a perfect essay. I feel when assigned an essay I freak out on how to make it seem smart enough and clean it up enough to at least a “B” essay because I know getting that “A” is a stretch. The most frustrating aspects of writing for me are writing the hook, the thesis statement, and being my own worst critic.
One strength I saw myself, as having when I enter college is being able to understand and critical think about a essay/article that I have read. However, after taking English 101, I have now learned that this is a strength of mine as well as a weakness.
When I sit and think of how is it possible to create an essay so perfect that even the professor that is reading it could applaud, and the only answer is practice. When I first stepped into an English course in college, that’s when writing became so difficult that I began to not want any parts of it. It was more than just writing an essay and making sure you used the correct punctuations, it was using different guidelines and rubrics and it all just didn’t make of me at first. I would sit for hours and think of how to start an essay and for it to make sense and not words jumbled together. I began to gain a total fear of going to English class in college due to the lack of my writing skills. I would
In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
As a student, I feel that I have many writing weaknesses. I know that on my own, and because teachers have told me so. Some of the complications I face with writing is not using enough body paragraphs, forgetting a thesis statement, lack of word choice, punctuation errors, and etc. I am unaware at times of my mistakes, but I always try to correct them.
Whenever students go into an English class, their teachers almost always bring up writing styles. Unfortunately, not many instructors explain what a writing style is. They just ask the students, “What is your writing style?”. At that point, most students do not respond and just look down at their notebook. Lunsford defines style as, “...how a message is presented, whether that message is in writing, in speech, in images, or in another form” (511). Style gives a story an overall picture. It allows the readers to visualize the narrative and comprehend it easily. Style is important to writers because they want their audience to connect with their piece. If there is no connection, then the story will not be as successful as it could be.
One strength I had was the organization of the essay. My sentences I wrote were not all over the place each paragraph talks about one topic. One weakness I had with writing this essay was my writing style. I noticed that in this essay my writing style was a bit choppy. I should have read my essay out loud to see if it had a good flow between my ideas.
organization, and word choice. All other essays were critiqued by my peers. With the help of
I am generally pretty organized when it comes to writing. Ahead of writing my actual rough draft, I like to jot down the main idea of each paragraph. Also before I turn in my paper, I will revise, proofread, and double check it. I feel confident in my word choice while I am writing. When writing, I try to pick the most sophisticated words I can. I try to obtain a new vocabulary from or during every piece that I write. I also try to keep my grammar usage at the highest level I can when writing new pieces. I personally believe that I have always had a reasonably strong sentence structure. Usually, when i am writing, my mind moves a million miles an hour, and I can only write so fast. Most of the time, the sentences just transfer right from my mind smack dab to the paper. Then, from there on out, the flow just continues. A perfect example is journals; my journals continually just flow instantly onto the page. So my two biggest strengths in writing are fluency and my word
