I have chosen the topic Occupational therapy for my senior project. I have always have had an interest in all kinds of therapist. Doing research, I found myself reading about occupational therapy or also known as OT'S. I have never heard of an Occupational therapist until then and most people don’t know what on OT is unless one of your family members need an OT's assistance. So that’s why I wanted to do my senior project on Occupational therapy so people know what it is and all the different opportunities there is.

The paper will begin with what I already knew about my topic then will lead to questions that I will answer by the end of my paper. The formal research will include the basics of occupational therapy including what it is, the future …show more content…

People don’t realize all the different areas that an OT can work in. Occupational Therapist can work with all ages.

Children

When the society think about who OT's work with the first thing that comes to mind are not usually children. From the Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) it is said that seven percent of all patients are children. People may wonder why a child might need an OT. While a child doesn’t have an occupation that adults have but children do have an occupation. That occupation is playing and learning with their fellow peers.

According to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), in addition to dealing with a someone's physical well-being, OT's address psychological, social, and environmental factors that can affect functioning in different ways. This approach makes OT a vital part of health care for some kids. People may ask does an OT's actually effect a child learning. While parents watch the first session of the OTs work they usually think "oh I can do this." But what they don’t realize that everything they do is for different reasons. Parents have said they saw results in the first week of therapy.
