In Today’s world there are many things that try to tell us being Catholic is wrong. As Catholics we have to take this on every day, and are challenged to not listen to it. The Ten Commandments are a guide for us to ignore the things people are telling. If we look at celebrities and people that are common role models, we should ask ourselves if they are the type of people we should be following. The people we should have as our role models are people that follow the Ten Commandments, rather than those who do not. My mom is a great role model to me, because she obeys the Ten Commandments to the best of her ability. Unlike society, my mom does not do the “normal” things that we are taught not to do. With her great belief of God, she knows what …show more content…
This first point on my list is sin. Everybody on earth sins, so it’s not like Christians don’t, but we try not to as well as we can and go to confession. Sin happens all the time and is often overlooked as why it is wrong. Obviously sin is important, because a man, Jesus Christ, died just so that we could be saved from them. Sin is so powerful, because it causes people to get mad at each other for whatever thing they did wrong. The next point on my list is not giving praise to God. People do not thank God for everything that he has given us. Everything that is in our lives is possible because of God, and sometimes we don’t even give thanks for it. We get things that some people aren’t able to get, then we don’t even thank God for the opportunity of getting it. Next on my list, I have the story of creation. Christians believe that God created the world in a seven-day process. Society tells us that the earth was formed over millions of years, rather than how God created it. It is hand for Christians to believe the Story of creations, because of scientists saying different. We have to believe the Story of creation, because we should never show doubt in God. Next, I have not going to
The best example of the importance of having role models is right in the beginning with their mothers. While Mary, the others Wes’s mother, lets her children roam around to do things they shoul...
Naturally, the Christian's greatest role model is Christ. 1 Peter 2:21 says, "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:" This same call to Christlikeness is reiterated in Philippians 2:5 which says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:" If a Christian is striving to be like Christ, they are on the right track.
In my life, my grandfather has always been my role model. He valued his beliefs and always abides by his values. My grandfather is a pastor. His leadership position in church gave him many responsibilities. I was never disappointed because he always tried to live an honest life. He was always trustworthy, reliable and responsible not just in church but also for his family. People followed his lead because he was always true to his words; he literally practiced what he preached. Credibility was the basic foundation for my grandfather’s leadership position. His credibleness has helped the church stay
There are many celebrities who have another side to them which people don’t really know about. Those public figures who are misunderstood can be an example to others who admire their work. Kim Kardashian is an actress, model and fashion designer. People think she is only famous because of her amazing body and beautiful face. On the other hand, some argue the only reason she became famous was because of a famous sex tape made public on the internet with a famous rapper named Ray-J back when they were dating. In fact, it first started when her dad, Robert Kardashian, was an attorney who helped O.J Simpson when he was accused of murder. That’s when the Kardashian family first became famous. Even though people don’t see Kim Kardashian as a role model, there are a few sides to her that no one knows about.
Why Athletes are Good Role Models Ever since the ancient years, we have admired athletes and the hard work. that they do to achieve their goal of winning. We idolize them and wish we were more like them. What happens though when the realization sinks in that they are human too and that some of them do get greedy and selfish?
Athlets have been lookd up to as role models for as long as sports have exsted. There is just something attractive about the thought of being in good physical condition and being talented in sports. But, are athlets the kind of people that children should be looking up to for direction and guidance? Many children often look up to the professional athletes as role models. In fact, in 1995 Sports Illustrated for Kids did a survey for kids who were ages 7 through 12 about who their role model was. The majority of the kids answered that a professional athlete was who they most looked up to. Only four percent of the children answered that their role model was one of thir parents. Because of today?s media, athletes are constantly in the public eye. Everything they do on and off of the playing field. Some professional athletes speak a positive message through their fame by demonstrating constructive ideas such as teamwork and commitment while they are on the field. Even off of the playing field some athletes set a good example by visiting children in schools, going to hospitals, or even setting up foundations and organizations to help the ill and less fortunate people. However, other athletes are not as considerate to the fact that someone may be looking up to them, some athletes are not concerned about anything other than the sport they are getting paid to play and themselves. These athletes are the ones that propose questions over whether athletes should be considered role models or not. A role model can be defined as a person whose behavior, example or success is or can be emulated by others, especially young people. Who would want their child looking up to someone who has been convicted of domestic violence or has a drug addiction? It is an argument of opinion that cannot be settled.
Who comes to mind when thinking about who the best role model is? Is it a friend? A sibling? Possibly a parent? For me, When thinking about who the best role model to have is, one person in particular comes to mind. She has been there my entire life, has seen me through thick and thin, and always supports me in everything that I do. The person that I consider to be the best role model is my older sister, Kelly. To this day my sister and I aren't joined at the hip, and I don't speak to her everyday, but my sister is still one of my closest friends. Growing up we saw things differently, but as I grew up and saw my sister go through life with a confidence still unrivaled, I realized she was the one person who I could count on to pick me up when
Gender has affected my life in many ways, but most of all I would say that from a young age I was given the impression that part of a woman’s value came from her ability to attract the opposite sex, and due to this mindset for a long time I felt as though I was ugly and difficult to love. There are so many expectations placed upon women based solely on the fact that they are female. Women are meant to be gentle, quiet, and respectful at all times but most of all they are expected to be pretty. Being physically appealing means different things depending on where you live, however, In western society it appears to mean being a tall, skinny, preferably blonde, Caucasian female and if you happen to match this criteria you’ve essentially hit the
I always emulated her: from choices in men (she favored creative types: photographers, filmmakers and writers for her; writers and musicians for me), personal style (though my Afro was never a big as hers), taste in music, career choices.
Despite the tradition of following religion to a tee, there are some blatant disregarding’s for Catholicism’s teachings. Catholocism teaches to love all, but the citizens equate love with honor. “Honor is love” is said by the narrators mother (97). It is this belief that allows people to justify wrongful actions.
Many people find someone in his/her life to look up to, a role model. There are many different kinds of role models; they can be singers, public speakers, a parent, or even a friend. Role models also are not determined by certain criteria. A role model can be a role model just because they are a leader or have a great talent. Oprah Winfrey is considered a role model to many individuals because of her tough childhood, wonderful charity work, her schools, and the true relationships with her fans. Oprah stands out among many people on her ability to feel others’ pain and help those people get through their troubling times.
Ever since I was in eighth grade, I have been obsessed with Taylor Swift. She has been my role model since I was thirteen. When you look at most singers today, they have to be singing about drugs or alcohol, using vulgar language, or performing half-dressed. You never see Taylor Swift doing anything that she would be ashamed of later in life. On the other hand, she has had many relationships that have lasted short time periods. At least, she is not getting married for 72 days or even 24 hours such Kim Kardashian or Britney Spears. This is why I chose to write a research paper on her.
She was a women of great faith and was raised in a Catholic Church and community which she passed down. I didn’t really understand her as a kid until I really experienced life then I understood her teachings and trainings. She took religion serious and she made sure everyone of us participated in church. Today I’m thankful because my morals and ethics were built up by her because I followed her steps. My grandma had most of what the “masses” think gives happiness. Her religious life helped her to gain a lifetime virtue and to understand morality. Money was not really a problem for her. I believe poverty could make one lose ethical values. Some people steal because they have no money and stealing is bad, what is bad is bad but in such case they have no choice. She really believed in helping people, even when she can’t afford what someone asked of, she gets herself in debt just to help. My grandma’s town is known to take education really serious and they go to any extent to help sending each other’s kids to school, which became part of my grandma and I respected her a lot for that. She loved and cared for other children like they were her
Jesus is a role model for me. Like Jesus I have been baptized in the faith.
Many of us have role models in our lives and to most people role models are athletes and movie stars, but to me a role model is much more. To me a role model is a person who has positively influenced someone in life, and is not a person filled with selfishness and greed. They help shape someone’s personality, and characteristics. They are people who someone can look up to for advice in a hard situation, and know that they will give those words of wisdom. They will never judge our past actions, instead only look to help because they really care. A role model is someone who we should never feel awkward talking to about our problems. A perfect role model for me is my mother. She is a wonderful human being. She’s smart, wise, ambitious, patient and such a loving person. There are no words that can describe my gratitude towards her, but through this essay I will describe some of her characteristics that makes her my role model.
