My Promise

One promise, one little promise that I made with my dad has changed my life more than I could have imagined. Considering the promise we made, a couple years after his death, my mom met a decent guy, who later became my step dad. Subsequently, he took all three of us to the United States and that gave me an opportunity for a better education and a new life. However, not brushing up on my English was one of the mistakes that I had made. Despite making such mistake, it has somehow, led me to meet many great people in my life and has me going through experiences that I would have never thought of, that eventually helped me in furthering my education.

However, I was put in an ESL class, which stands for English as Second Language, to improve my English further. Being in that class wasn’t bad, the teacher was nice and I had a lot of fun while learning. She made the lessons fun and easy for me to follow, also sometimes she would even put on a movie for us to watch. By the time for the mock STAAR test, the lessons started to get more profound and serious, though we would still have time to relax and not getting stress about it. She would tell us over and over again to take our time to go over the test more than once to check our answers and to eat a healthy breakfast before the test. Remembering her words, before the test I ate a hearty meal, and relaxed my mind before starting the test. During the test, I would use the knowledges learning from the class and applied it onto the test. Even after I has finished, I still have half of the day left, hence, I decided to stay back and looked over my test and began all over again to be sure. By the time I had finished, there were only about 5 people left including me. While waiting for the test results, I couldn’t have been more restless. After finding out about the scores, not just me but even my teacher was surprised, for I was the one with the highest scores out of all. My mom and my step dad got divorced, we moved around quite a few times, and my grandparents passed away a year apart from each other, before long, we finally settled down here in Port Lavaca. Where I began to focused more on school than I was during my time in Houston. Even though the first year my grades weren’t as good as I has expected, nevertheless, I have many great teachers who so willingly and gladly help me. Starting with my freshman year Spanish teacher, Mr. Delgado, even though many other students in class disliked him, I, on the other hand, likes him. He’s a nice teacher despite his clumsiness I would say. He always greeted us every morning with a warm smile, and during class he try to understand the problems we were having and tried to help us to fix them. Proceed on to my sophomore year English teacher, Mr. Gonzalez. He carefully explained the assignments to me and help me to comprehend anything there is need to be. Also, he readily to give me an extension on the assignments if I were to miss class for a certain reason or if there was something that I didn’t know what to do. Going past my junior year to my senior year, Mrs. Crow, my English teacher, the one who I absolutely adores. Not only she prepared to stays behind to help me but she conjointly guides and points out the problems I was having with my writing and patiently gave me time to finish my assignments. She taught me how to read a book carefully
