My Project to Help Abused Animals

I pass a certain house everyday as I drive to and from school. Everyday, I see a brown Labrador Retriever laying outside in a pile of mud. He is tied up to a chain leash, no bigger than four feet long. His leash is not even long enough to reach his dog house, therefore he sleeps outside every night despite the weather conditions. I am always inclined to pull over and bring the dog bowls of food and water. I cannot understand what makes a person neglect such a beautiful and innocent creature. My heart breaks for him, and all other animals like him that are suffering neglect and abuse. If I could lead a volunteer project, it would be one focused on stopping and preventing widespread animal abuse. Due to my leadership skills as a section leader, camp counselor, vice president, and more, I believe I can lead a successful volunteer project, with the goal of installing a set of stricter guidelines that animal owners should adhere by.
In order for this project to be effective, I would first come up with a plan and checklist of what I hope to accomplish within a year so I could reach my goal. Being organized is a great way to ensure that I am making the most out of my time. I would then visit my local animal shelter to see if I can get some more information about animal abuse. Talking to a veterinarian about the different injuries that animals have when they are brought in due to animal abuse would also be beneficial. I need to try and become as knowledgeable as I can to lead a successful volunteer project. Once I am knowledgeable, then I can start getting the word out about animal abuse around my community. Posting brochures, flyers, and posters about the effects of abuse on animals in populated areas would be a good way for people to ...

... me positively as well as the animals who are being beaten if I can effectively get my message across. Being a camp counselor, I can plan out activities to do with children, similar to how I would have to plan out the events I would do for my volunteer project. All of the knowledge and expertise I have gained from these leadership positions can help me ensure my volunteer project would be successful.
Being a leader can be hard, but that is part of the job, and I believe I am well qualified. When others give up, I keep going. I believe I owe something to those animals out there; I want to show them that there are good people in the world, good people who wont constantly abuse them. I hope one day I can drive past that house, and see that dog with enough food, water, adequate shelter, and being cared for. It would be then that I would know all my hard work paid off.
