The challenge of leadership is being able to respond to the diversity of today’s society. It is important to be able to interact with followers and develop an alliance in order to achieve goals. A leader must be willing to take risks and explore opportunities for improvement and growth. By delegating and giving others responsibilities, it rewards their accomplishments or provides a learning experience for mistakes. People who recognize the value of individual freedom in addition to working hard using their own leadership skills and understanding to influence others will find a stronger character within themselves.
Another base for a strong leadership is to bring out all the capabilities of your people by making them enjoy the team spirit. A good leader should seek responsibility and take responsibility for his actions. Also the leader should ensure that the tasks given are u... ... middle of paper ... ...itive attitude At last all the leaders should have a positive attitude towards their people and work. Also positive communication should be kept as it helps to create loyalty and mutual exchange of ideas and attitudes. For me leadership means more than just being called a leader.
How do you define leadership? I define leadership as to have the drive to nurture and make a positive difference to motivate your employees also to engage in good communication skills. Learn to contribute our knowledge, skills, creativity and talent to create an atmosphere where brilliant minds can stand united. Try to see things from the other person’s point of view and acknowledge their feelings because they are counting on you to get things done as a leader. Self-assurance and they should be held to a very high standard when making decisions.
These behavioral traits are essential in being a successful leader. Organizations need leaders that can work with their employees, build team work and be open to new ideas, (Lawler, 2003). In order for progress to be made, employees need to believe in their leader, and in turn, the leader needs to believe in their employees. Trust is obtained through mutual respect, building that bond of commitment to insure organizational success, (Lawler, 2003). The employees will follow a leader that promotes a positive attitude and enjoys expressing their ideas and stories.
Although some people might see others as leaders, based on certain traits or intellectual traits, leadership is all about influencing followers to attain goals. Northouse then explained that leadership is not a trait or characteristic because it is something that everyone has. On the other hand, people can argue that there might be a bit of le... ... middle of paper ... ... a long-term vision for achievement. Effective leaders manage by example and in doing so it helps develop their followers. Leaders can never grow weary of articulating their vision.
In order to be an effect team you must have trust, communication, loyalty, selfless service, respect, and discipline. Successful teams put the good of the team first and work together to accomplish their goals. They thrive on challenges and learn from previous experience in order to improve in the future. These teams show pride in what they do and their accomplishments. After Action Review (AAR) is one more principle and powerful tool discussed in the book.
This is how I will incorporate self-leadership into my leadership model while leading project teams. A high level of self-confidence will show in my behavior, my body language, how I speak, and what I say. This will give off a positive “can do” attitude that will motivate others around me. I know that what I put in as a leader is exactly what I will get out. I also know that as a
Service: an effective leader humbles them self to be of service to their team. They must have and feel the supported. The leader must readily offer the tools needed to do their jobs well. It is also rewarding to be recognized for their efforts. That is all part of a leadership which serves the team, and not the opposite.
It is much easier when people feel comfortable around their leader. I always like to lend a helping hand or even a shoulder to cry on when it is needed. My strengths include integrity, optimism, faith, innovation, and adaptability. These strengths are important to have in leadership positions. Leaders should have a firm hold on their beliefs and morals in order to have a positive impact on people.
Followers must know and feel comfortable enough to have their opinions (Dubrin, 2013). A relationship-based leader is great at letting others know that they have an open-door policy and mean it. Inspiration from a leader is necessary as creates innovation and productivity. Maslow’s theory suggests that people have sets of needs that must be met to be successful. A relationship-oriented leader focuses a follower’s need “for achievement, personal growth, a sense of belonging, recognition, self-esteem, and a feeling of control over one’s life” (Dubrin, 2013, p. 117).
