Philosophy of Education

According to Webster’s Dictionary, “A teacher is a person who teaches especially for a living.” This definition though is not entirely true about a teacher. As a teacher not only do you teach students, but teachers are parents, social workers, nurses, and even friends. A good teacher should be able to play all of these roles and will be successful throughout their teaching career. I attended public schools, so I got the good, the bad, and the ugly of every kind of teacher one could possibly have. The good teachers I had throughout school are what inspired me to become a teacher now. I am pursing a major in mathematics even though a lot of people think I am crazy for doing so, but the school system is hurting for good math teachers. That is where I come in to play, once I get my degree I will go off to teach math and play the many roles of a teacher. It has been a life long dream of mine.

Education is a key term in today’s society and it all starts in the elementary stages. The children enter this stage as completely new computers with nothing on their hard drive yet. In conclusion no matter how many bad and ugly teachers I have had, teaching is what I want to pursue. I want to be that teacher who fills that computers hard drive with tons of information so that computer is ready for college and the real world. I mean really would you want to work with a computer that has nothing on their hard drive? The students are our future in this world today. It is my job, once I graduate, to teach these students to the best of my ability. I am not only going to teach though, but I am going to be a role model for the students and hopefully other faculty members.
