I believe that my personal teaching style will be similar to my parenting style which is most definitely an authoritative style. This style gives structure, but is nurturing. Authoritative parents give children choices within reason or limits. This gives children some control over their decisions. Overall children of authoritative parents grow up to be happier well rounded adults. I think the teaching style that correlates to this type of parenting style is a facilitator teaching style. The facilitative teacher guides students in the learning process. This promotes self learning, and helps develop critical thinking skills. Students will be able to retain knowledge better.

First thing teachers need to know is the content. If the content is not well known their will be a lack of authority, that could lead to loss of control in the classroom. The second thing teachers need to know is their students. It is important to build a good rapport with them. It is also important to know what normal kid behavior is, and your own students behaviors. Being keen on their personal behaviors will help make it easier to pinpoint if anything is ever wrong or bothering them.
Punishment should not be the only thing that teachers rely on to control the classroom. Being aware of actions before they happen can prevent unwanted behaviors before they happen. Using positive reinforcement is more effective in maintaining control in the classroom. Classroom rewards would be a good way to enforce positive behavior. Focusing on positive rather than negative will generate a happier climate in the classroom.
Maintain professionalism will help keep the classroom in order. Be a good role model to students, and keep things organized. Teach with inspiration and innovation. Parenting styles are the way that parents discipline, raise, and show their affection to their children. The book defines parenting methods as, “how, and to what extent, parents seek to control their children” (Meyers & Dewall). The book also lists three different styles of parenting, defining them as authoritarian, permissive, and authoritative. The mindset of the child, how the child deals with social interactions, and the overall mental health of the child can all be affected depending on the parenting styles that their parents choose to use.

The goal of using positive reinforcement in this situation would be to encourage the students to behave in a kind and respectful manner in hopes that their disrespectful behavior would decrease. To achieve this goal, I believe it would be best to use positive reinforcement to reward the students whenever they do behave like they should. For example, if I, as the teacher, were asking questions in class, I would compliment the students or even give them a physical reward, such as candy, when they raise their hands in a calm manner to answer questions. Not only would this encourage their participation in class, but it would encourage them to participate in a respectful manner. The use of a reward, physical or otherwise, could also be applied to situations where the students perform any desired behavior such as doing their work quietly. In second grade I was apart of a wild classroom. Their was a lot of chaos from all the young children. My teacher struggled to get everyone on task and to complete our work. After some time my teacher decided to make up a reward system (positive reinforcement). The children in the classroom were able to earn tickets for doing their homework, being respectful, and many other things. We were able to save these tickets and cash them in on fridays for treats, toys, or even sometimes extra recess. The teacher had a separate system for when we misbehaved. There were 3 colors you could earn everyday. If you weren’t on task, out of your seat, or just being disruptive she would change your color from green to yellow. If it happened again you got a red card and lost your tickets you earned for that day. This is a perfect example of positive punishment. It gave each child an opportunity to earn tickets for good behavior, and a warning system with the cards that possibly would lead to losing your earned tickets. I can guarantee that punishment is not the answer. Punishment is a suggestion made by reformers (Postman, 311), but it is the absolute worst decision that can be made in our schools. When students get out of school suspension (OSS), they treat it as a vacation day and most of them use it to play video games, and they still get to make up the work they missed. A countless amount of kids in my high school did exactly that. On another side of that, punishment is giving a student attention. Not a great kind of attention, but attention nonetheless. If a student really wants attention, it won’t matter to them what kind. If something is awry in the classroom, it should be ignored. With over three hundred million Americans and over six billion people worldwide parenting skills are essential to maintain a healthy society. Parenting involves many aspects and requires many skills. It is a time to nurture, instruct, and correct to develop fundamental skills children will need to be mature, responsible, and contributing adults to a society. There are four commonly identified parenting styles; authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved parenting. Of the four parenting styles, two remain on opposite ends of the parenting spectrum.
The first type of parenting style is called authoritarian. In this parenting style the parents are the boss. They make strict rules and they enforce them. They focus more on restrictions than a loving relationship with their child. They believe it is their job as parents to catch their children being bad and punish them. These parents use external control on their children instead of taking time to tell the kid what they did wrong and why they should not do it again. Something these parents do not realize is that they do not catch their kids being good. Authoritarian parents are firm and unsympathetic. Authoritarian parents love to use discipline.

.... I feel that in most cases, once a student has been punished through negative reinforcement for doing wrong, the student will attempt to correct such behavior in the future to avoid punishment. In addition, positive reinforcement should be given for those students who are the majority and behave, as well as for the students who are occasional troublemakers because positive reinforcement helps show what is correct behavior in response to bad behavior.
As stated earlier, I believe Classroom Management is the key to how learning can take place and students can feel safe participating.
