I am majoring in violin performance and music has been my passion, life and soul for the last fourteen years. I am devoted to study violin in order to develop all the necessary musicianship, techniques and skills to become a well rounded and solid professional in music with specialty in violin performance. I feel proud to have grown up in a musical environment, as my grandfather was a professional musician who played in several professional symphony orchestras, my mother learned violin from my grandfather, then my older brother from her and then I did. On the other hand, my father is a former Fulbright Scholar with a DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. Although they have all have been a tremendous inspiration, it was my own will, passion and love for music that led me to pursue such career. All of this implies a sound knowledge in music theory, ear training, musical analysis, music history, and proficiency in piano as the fundamental skills for most professional musicians. So far, I feel proud that the courses on these subjects have been a success for me. For example, I am thrilled not only for being able to play piano with fluency, but also because such proficiency is a key aspect of being a complete musician. In addition, I have experienced a pleasant surprise in music theory not only for understanding the subject matter we are covering, but also pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve with the fundamentals of music, going as far as to have the theory teacher assistant call me “ambitious” for my work. He pushed me to let my voice be heard, not just to receive the A that I desired, but because he believed that I had musical talent. It was from his encouragement that I received attention from other peers and my teachers. Finally, I had been noticed for doing something remarkable- other than certificates that I had previously been awarded for academics. Now, when I spoke- or sang, rather,- people began to listen. I had haphazardly discovered a talent of mine that may have gone unnoticed if I allowed myself to switch classes to one of a higher academic rigour to assuage the fears that came with being a perfectionist.
I am no longer afraid to take hard courses at school head on, rather I value the education they provide that I will need in the future. I am no longer afraid to tackle difficult audition excerpts, instead I cherish the experience of having the opportunity to play such monumental orchestral pieces with individuals who share the same passion for music as I do. While I still may be faced with failure and loss, knowing that I am doing something because I truly want to and that I am performing to the best of my best capabilities with conviction and zeal, is the most gratifying deed I am able to
Since the earliest days of human civilization music has been a key tool for communication of stories which carried emotions through them. If we think back to our youngest years of life music has surrounded us whether it was from our parents singing us lullabies or from some sort of toy that played music we can say that musical melodies have helped shape or lives one way or another. Once we start growing up and figuring out who we are our musical preferences change; some people like classical and some like punk. We start to befriend people who like the same music as us and eventually we may attend a musical event. Our lives somewhat revolve around the music that we listen to.
As a musician, I value the importance of improvement and continuing education. One of my strengths is that I am never completely satisfied with my musical abilities and knowledge and am always improving. This mindset also coincides with humility.
Having music in your life is very important. Music is one of the most powerful things in the world today. Many people make a lot of money making music because of its popularity. It may not be the same genre of music, but everybody likes it. Personally music helps me from day to day. When I am stressed I listen to it to calm me down. When I am sad I listen to it to make me happy. When my spirit is down I listen to gospel to bring it back up. Without music I do not know what I would do. I believe that there is music for every person and problem they may have. It helps me, and I know it will help
I contribute to school life as much as possible, for example being part of my school’s production of ‘Made in Dagenham’ in 2016. I have been involved with music from a very early stage. I take part in competitions individually and in groups. I have gone on to represent my county and province at the All Ireland stage on several occasions. On the 1st of April 2016, I attained my grade 8 in the London College of Music for Irish Traditional Music on the piano accordion.
After seeing the impact music can have on one person, I was enraptured with the magic of music. It hit me like a brick, creating a sense of calm once I determined what I wanted and what I could give to people. I continued to make the most out of my internship, and dug into the activities, helping plan, lead and create these engaging ideas while maintaining a psychological approach. I have also frequently administered private bassoon lessons to younger students. The ability for people to soak up knowledge like a sponge never ceases to amaze me, and teaching others has, in turn, made me a better student. The advantages to teaching frequently inspire me to better myself. Music has played a large role in my life, and performing music grants me the freedom to express and interpret the nuances of the simple black notes on the page to create a masterpiece. I am discovering myself daily, and over time, I have evolved into who I am today. Music has played an enormous role in my life over the years, in both professional and casual settings, but perhaps the most rewarding and memorable moments have been through outreach and working in my community. As a violinist in the highest level orchestra of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, I have worked to reach out to the younger students of the organization and mentor them in their musical journeys. Since my sophomore year of high school, I have attended rehearsals and guided elementary-age children as they begin to learn the foundations of orchestral playing. Also, through PYP, I have had the opportunity to teach “peer mentor” lessons to middle school age violinists who are unable to afford to pay for lessons of their own. Music is that one friend that will always be there and will never judge us. It changes and has a huge impact on lives tremendously. There will always be that one song that can make a person get up and go. Sometimes, when we are sick it helps to take away some of the sorrow, pain, and it comforts us the best way it can. (White)
Music has always been a big part of my life. Music is not just a bunch of melodies, rhythms, and vibrant sounds. It is a comfort to me. The lyrics of a song challenge my intellect and the rhythms and beats affect my emotions. Music understands me when people don’t. At times it takes me back to an event in my life or even in history. Both consciously and subconsciously my mind remembers the emotions that are attached to a certain song. It can make me feel on top of the world or the complete opposite; music can change the atmosphere and also set the mood. Music has power over my human soul. It soothes it. I cannot imagine not having music to listen to. It is a powerful force and my love for it is incredible.

The career of music varies from teachers, private vocal coaches, orchestras, professional singers, and many more. But one thing is clear, I want to delve into the world of the music and spend my life performing or teaching. There will always be a demand for music, so this career is endless in opportunities. A person doesn’t have to be a professional singer with a contract to make a difference in music; anybody can.
