1. Doing what I like is also another core value. This involves having a true passion and enjoyment for my work. I do not want to dread going to work everyday. The career I choose is something I will have for the rest of my life, and I do not want to be dreading the rest of my life. I also find that I typically will do better and work harder if I am doing something that I find interesting or enjoy. I long to put my best effort into my work and that is something I know I will likely accomplish if I am doing what I like. This is a key reason I have been researching nursing. As I was researching I found the nurses are very personable with their patients. Nurses spend hours upon hours with patients not only treating them, but getting to know them. …show more content…
Empathy, Developer, Futuristic, Achiever, and Restorative, these traits represent my top five strengths. As an empathetic person I am able to sense how people are feeling. So much so that I am able to feel what they feel. By this, I am able to help people feel buoyant about their situations. Not only am I able to put myself in another person’s shoes, but because of this I can act when others behave in a way that unhealthy for themselves or others. This strength can help me achieve success as a nurse because it allows me to have a desire to help people. I will also be able to put myself in the lives of my patients and attempt to understand what they are truly going through. Empathy overall is fitting for a nurse, however, there may be times it becomes a challenge. It is possible for me to over empathize. I may have time where I truly do feel what the patient or their family feels and that may bring me down. Nurses need to be able to put aside the sadness they may feel over a patient or their families and be strong. As a developer I am able to see potential in others. Due to this strength, I often speak words of encouragement and try not to bring others down. I am able to acknowledge individual’s opinions and take their suggestions into consideration. I do not like attention drawn to myself, instead I rejoice in the accomplishments of others. I believe that by sharing information, resources, talents, and time I am able to grow as a person and professional. As a nurse, this strength is admirable because nursing requires teamwork. To work as a team, it is important to encourage each other and learn from one another. Having this strength as a developer benefits my abilities when working as a team. Being futuristic allows me to look into the future and envision what it may hold. Because of this strength I constantly think about what I can fix or improve. I am often thinking about what I can achieve in the future. I tend to think of short term plans to work towards my
One of my greatest skills is being able to be compassionate towards others. By placing myself into someone else’s shoes, I find myself being able to better understand where other people are coming from. I am an extremely caring person that will go to great lengths for anyone. I can easily overlook the differences in other people, and this is what helps me get along with almost anyone that I come across. In order to lead people in a positive direction you need to be able to relate to them on a more personal level. It is much easier when people feel comfortable around their leader. I always like to lend a helping hand or even a shoulder to cry on when it is needed. My strengths include integrity, optimism, faith, innovation, and adaptability. These strengths are important to have in leadership positions. Leaders should have a firm hold on their beliefs and morals in order to have a positive impact on people. Keeping my commitments is crucial to me, because I am a woman of my word. I think this is a good trait in leadership, because people need to be able to count on the person that they look up to. Optimism is also something I value. I belie...
I feel like this is an accurate assessment of my personality and I think this is a characteristic that will be beneficial to me when I am in the counseling profession. This is a characteristic that I relate to counselors and advocating for clients. Empathy was listed as my second strength. Empathy means being able to sense or feel other’s feelings and being able to imagine yourself in another person’s situation. I know that this will be beneficial for me as a counselor because empathy is one of the most crucial characteristics for the therapeutic relationship. Input is my third strength. This means that I am inquisitive, naturally curious, and seek information about many things. I think this is helpful for me as a counselor because we are expected to be life-long learners and actively continue our education. Connectedness was my fourth strength and it means that people who have this strength believe that all people are connected and that we are responsible for others. It also
My five strengths according to the strength finder include; balance, this helps me be aware of treating all people equally regardless of the situation. I am neither in anyone 's favor or against anyone as this to me is selfishness and individualism. This would result in a situation where some people scale heights due to connections while others are lagging behind. I believe that a consistent environment where the rules apply to everyone is the best for individuals to function best (Rath, 2007). Flexibility is my next strength. By knowing that things do not always work out as planned has helped me change the tactics of how I perform my tasks. I do not always expect to have a smooth flow of opportunities or accomplish goals, but
Professional values that are incorporated into my nursing practice include veracity, kindness, support and understanding. It is important to be honest with patients and help them set realistic goals during their recovery process. It is also important to be kind to those that are ill, as they may not have the best attitude at tim...
In the near future my goal is to further my studies; in the nursing field as a Registered nurse. Personally, my main objectives to become a Registered nurse are, to help save the lives of other, accomplishing my goal, and living life more independently. These are the qualities that would best describe personality: enthusiastic, loving, caring, compassionate, honest, and a cheerful individual. I grow up to have deep passionate love for people, especially those that are unable to help themselves on a daily basis. I always vision myself attending to someone’s rescue; that is in danger or in critical condition. What I have noticed from a long time ago; is that the nursing industry is one out of many that devotes their time, patient, and input hard work and effort to help meet the need of others and make a difference.
The two areas that best reflect my strong suits are respectful and inspiring. (Steadiness) Respect should not be taken lightly and people want others to show them that they are important. I am not the one to belittle, talk down to someone, embarrass the other person, or not acknowledge someone because they are not like me or do not hold a certain position. People respond in a negative manner and become very defensive when others treat them in any of the ways previously mention. I look at how I want others to consider when speaking and interacting with me. That is the way I have to try to handle myself when dealing with others. Taking calculated risks is what I do best because I cannot stand losing too much if the results do not outweigh the risks involved. I am also very critical on myself and can point out faults in a heartbeat. I have to analyze future actions before I act on anything because I do not want to go wrong or too far away from initial path. Repeating myself or actually running through multiple scenarios takes up a lot of time. Being overly critical on myself will eliminate some of that time that I cannot get back.
I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. As nurses, we care for patients through illness, injury, aging, health. We also promote health, prevent diseases and teaching the community; that’s what I love about nursing. I believe that this is the right profession for me because I have all the qualities that a nurse should possess when
Nursing is a promising career that offers many rewards to caring individuals. It is more than just a job that one attends day to day. Nursing is a career that kind people get in to because they are passionate about life and everything is has to offer. They care for people they have never met before in such a way that makes the patient feel comfortable and able to relax. In a way that makes it possible for the patient to recover from whatever they have encountered. If I am going to spend valuable time and money on education, I want to a job that I absolutely love. I want to have the satisfaction of knowing that my job is safe even when times are rough. Interviewing Jennifer H, a Registered Nurse at a local Banner facility really helped me get insight on what the position has to offer. I have encountered many people who are not passionate about their job and just show up for a paycheck; choosing a job in the medical field provides people with the same check, but also offers job security, advancement opportunities and numerous benefits for the employee and their famil...
Each individual gets to a point in life whereby they assess their internal qualities, people reflect their profession aspirations and attempt to see which careers will make them happy in their lives. It is also important for a person to consider whether they have the qualities needed for a particular profession and also consider the available resources that will help him or her reach their set goals (Chafey, Rhea, Shannon, & Spencer, (1998). Every human being has weaknesses and strengths in their personal or professional aspirations. Having strength means that someone has the physical and mental power to perform things in a successful manner. On the other hand, weaknesses are the drawbacks, the inadequate lack of strength or power to accomplish important goals in life, and every human has some potential of being a leader in some way (American Association of Critical Care Nurses (2006). This paper will discuss the outcome results inventory on the nurse as a manager, it illustrates personal strength and weaknesses in relation to personal life and professional aspirations. The paper will also discuss planning for career, disciplines in personal expedition, practice
I believe that Nursing is a profession that is unique to the individual. My reasons for choosing such a profession is due to the fact that I have a desire to help others. Growing up with a very sick parent of whom I traveled back and forth over the years to many physician offices, lead me to develop my career path at an early age which was nursing. I watched the many doctors and nurses providing care to my mom in such a compassionate way, and as a result of the kindness they showed my sibling and me, I was very much aware this was as some may say, “my calling”. I had a conversation with my mom and told her that one day I was going to be a nurse so that I could care for her in the same manner that I saw the nurses and physicians caring for her. I wanted to
My core values and beliefs are honesty, caring, family, and lifelong learning, which I use every day in my life. The core of nursing is caring, knowledge, and integrity that focuses on the patient’s needs, healing, safety, and encouragement. Personal and professional beliefs overlap the driving force of nursing. The qualities of a good nurse are not or cannot be turned off and on, and are part of the person I am. We are just helping hands that are always striving to help others. I am not perfect. I am a human being and sometimes mistakes will be made, but I always try my best. If something goes wrong, I will examine the situation, and learn from it to make me a better nurse than I was before. I will monitor and reflect on my own actions to ensure that I am staying true to what I believe are the best nursing practices. When we find conflicts between our personal beliefs and those of the patient, we should uphold our personal and professional ethical standards. We should find someone to guide us through our conflict to find a solution that will not compromise our own
I practice empathy in my daily life. I enjoy understanding the viewpoints of others, even if they are drastically different than my own, while treating them as equal to myself. I am highly organized, which can be seen by viewing my transcripts. While working, being involved in campus clubs, and volunteering, I still work hard and get good grades. I am always working on my self-awareness by reflecting on almost every situation I have been in and figuring out how to improve for the next time. My strengths are that I am connected, an achiever, responsible, harmonic, and a learner. I possess the strength of connectedness because I believe everything happens for a reason. I like to link things and people together, creating understanding of many different things and people. I enjoy interacting with people who have had different life experiences than my own and creating a psychological bond from that. I am an achiever because I work hard and finish what I start. I thrive on keeping my word and being productive. I am also responsible and take psychological ownership of what I say I will do. I highlight my values of honestly and loyalty. I possess the strength of harmony because I dislike conflict; instead I prefer to work toward finding an area of agreement. Also, I am a learner. I love to constantly learn and grow from the knowledge I obtain. The process of learning in itself is extremely satisfying to me. My limitations include my Bachelor’s degree in psychology, my lack of experience in a social work setting, and growing up in an area with limited diversity. Since my main area of interest is in mental health, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln does not offer a social work degree, I decided to major in psychology. Psychology will help me with the mental aspects of a social work education, but neglects to teach me about disadvantaged individuals, social work ethics, and interactions in the
These various characteristics help to avoid some avoidable mistakes that can be unforeseen. I have quite some strengths that has helped me so far in my nursing career and has also helped me to be one of the best nurses around. Braveness is one important strength that I have that has helped me in my nursing career. Braveness has propelled me to be able to accept any challenges and to be able to face it in my nursing practice. I am not afraid to explore different areas in nursing due to this distinctive strength that I possess. The strength has also helped me in furthering my education without fear of failing in my chosen
Nursing, for me, is more than a profession, it is a journey where I learn continuously about life changing events and miracles. Touching the lives of others or being touched by other’s story is an experience one can’t describe, only endure. Nursing is a profession of integrity and compassion, and it is the most trusted professions due to our commitment towards our patient. The quality of a good nurse is they should be caring, sensitive, kind and respectful towards their patient, and I believe I possess all these qualities that have contributed to me in my successful career of nursing. Working at Cleveland Clinic, I got a great opportunity to work with a group of doctors and coworkers who have the same mission in life and job as mine; “Put the patient first”. Making a positive impact on patient’s life, big or small, noticed or unnoticed, gives me a great sense of accomplishment and makes me proud to be a nurse.
Some of my personality traits include; empathy, strong willed, and ambitious. Beginning with empathy, it is the ability to recognize and to share the thoughts to some extent. In many cases empathy leads to multiple good relationships. As a Support worker, I am expected to get along with others very well. These include my workmates and my patients. Being empathetic also enables me to be considerate. I am able to identify with my patients problems very well. They will therefore easily entrust me with their problems with the assurance that they won’t be criticized. In such a situation, as a Support worker I will be able to assist them without any barriers (Allen, 2006).
