Some people will go their entire lives without ever learning how to prepare food. I have enjoyed cooking from the first time I have ever made a meal and I believe I will enjoy it until the day I die. Learning to cook was not exactly an easy experience, yet it was still extremely rewarding. Cooking is an imperative skill for people to learn and I have spent years teaching myself how to be a better cook, and I intend to spend many more perfecting food.
I first discovered my desire to learn to cook when I was ten years old. My mother was never an amazing cook, but she did always put a warm meal on the table. At least twice a week she would try a recipe she has never made before, and those were my favorite nights. I use to love to sit there and

The main focus for the class was to make a spanish dish called paella. Paella is a rice based dish that has chicken, shrimp, and other seafoods. It comes from Spain and it is an extremely hard dish to make due to its many combining flavors and intricate details. The class was focused on the more gourmet aspects of food, such as plating and using more uncommon foods. Everything was prepared fresh, including peeling and deveining shrimp, opening shells for scallops, and breaking down an entire chicken. This whole class really taught me the finer aspects of food and made me realize how much I truly enjoy cooking. Cooking with grocery store ingredients compared to using all fresh is a completely different experience, and it opened me up to a much finer world of …show more content…
My uncle was always an amazing chef. He has made some of the best food I have ever tasted and was one of the main people to teach me about food. He always encouraged me to try new things and would give me tips on little things to make my cooking better. Every year my uncle would throw a ginormous Christmas party. The entire family is invited and it is in total about forty people that all have a four course meal made for them. Two years ago my uncle decide to let me make all the food for the dinner. He did help me throughout, but I was given the creative freedom to make all the recipes and choices regarding the food. It was the hardest meal I have ever had to make, yet it was easily the most rewarding. I spent the entire morning, afternoon, and part of the night to finish all of the food for the meal at eight p.m. . The whole meal consisted of an iceberg wedge salad, a tilapia and scallop tomato based soup, chicken cordon bleu, and a banana pudding for dessert. Due to the sheer quantity of the food the meal had to be made in massive pots, a total of three ovens at one time, and cost almost 500 dollars for all the ingredients. After I finished all of the cooking my shirt was stained with sauce and I was the most exhausted I had been in a long time. I never realized just how tiring it was to cook for an entire day until that moment. This was the
A major issue that is occurring in America is a phenomena known as “food deserts”, most are located in urban areas and it's difficult to buy affordable or good-quality fresh food. Whereas in the past, food deserts were thought to be solved with just placing a grocery store in the area, but with times it has become an issue that people are not picking the best nutritional option. This issue is not only making grocery store in food deserts are practically useless and not really eliminating the issue of food deserts because even when they are given a better nutritional option, and people are not taking it. In my perspective, it takes more than a grocery store to eliminate ‘food deserts’. It's more about demonstrating the good of picking the nutritional option and how it can help them and their families. For example, “Those who live in these areas are often subject to poor diets as a result and are at a greater risk of becoming obese or developing chronic diseases.”(Corapi, 2014).
My childhood was impacted early on from my father’s career in the Army which meant moving often and one of my favorite places we lived in was Belgium. We lived in Europe for many years and we not only lived but traveled as well all over Europe. I spent my childhood at times watching behind the counter at food stalls as cooks made fresh real Belgium waffles and crepes with chocolate Nutella and powdered sugar. When my brother and I were good we would eat the fries that the Belgium’s were famous for located in small shops everywhere.
I am passionate about baking. From my first batch of burned traditional Chinese cookie to the delicate French macarons I just bite, it has been a long journey.
... (I never get tired of eating it). As a human I find food tasting better when I am hungry. In addition, I must admit I am a picky eater, which sometimes prevents my mom from cooking different types of food. Possibly the best thing about being an eater is that you avoid the difficulties of preparing the meal, especially when you are known to cause messes in the kitchen.
“I’ve always loved baking, it was a tradition with my grandma at every holiday,” Rockers said. “My mom taught me some recipes but then I would always [bake] with my grandma, then my other grandma got me all my supplies.”
She believes that reason that the generation that now is the ones who cook the most, go for the easy
Narrative writing is a genre of writing that all students use at some point in school, whether it’s elementary, high school, or college. With Narrative writing I’m sure people have different views than I do and might not enjoy it as well as I. But I’m sure there are others that enjoy it the same if not more than me. This form of writing can be a chance to escape from reality and have fun with your writing. Narrative writing can consist of many different stories from created ones to real life experiences, such as a story starting out true but ending with a twist.

This statement by Druckman portrays the belief that women cook for the emotional experience while men cook for the technical experience. Research conducted by Marjorie DeVault (1991) suggests wives and mothers cook as a way to show their love to their family. Similarly, research by Cairns, Johnston, and Baumann (2010) discusses women’s emotional responses to cooking for their family and friends. Both studies highlight the emotion and nurture women feel as they cook for others. The studies’ discussion about the nurturing aspect of cooking demonstrates the traditional feminine belief that women cook in order to nurture their families as discussed by Friedan (1963) and Hochschild
When I first learned to cook about six years ago, there were no magazine articles or books in bookstores explaining how to cook; there were only cookbooks with recipes for one to decipher. Today, the articles and books that explain how to cook are minimal. Not everyone can compete with Julia Child in cooking gourmet food with the menu devised in our minds without referring to cookbooks, but many of us can learn to cook effectively. A step-by-step process should be followed to learn how to cook successfully.

The social standing of food became very significant in the early modern Europe. In this period, food was not just a mere substance but was considered an indicator of social position and situation . My mother always comes up with ways to make vegetables taste delicious. Her meals are so mouthwatering that it is known throughout the neighborhood. Occasionally, we would have many guests over during the holidays. Partying and enjoying the nice atmosphere around the dining room, however, I 've noticed that they are all there impatiently waiting for my mother 's famous chicken fettuccine pasta dish. This is when my mother is the happiest. Cooking has always been her way of entertainment and she loves seeing others happy as they enjoy her delicious meal that she work so hard on. I 've never thought food could bring people together in such a comforting way, but it taught me that as long as you 're doing something you love then it can make others happy as well. Seeing her happy always warms my
Good cooking doesn’t always come naturally, but when skill’s and/or talents are perfected strengths such as cooking can become fun or even a hobby.
