My Personal Leadership Style

Experience and time are amazing teachers. When I wrote on my leadership style trying to answer the question of whether I am a manager or a leader at the start of the semester, I wrote that I am mostly a manager. I also wrote that by recognizing where I was at that time would guide me to develop myself, to advance from being a manager to a leader.
Ambition, drive and smartness can help me rise to the top of my profession, however with opportunity comes responsibility. I must be my own chief executive officer. I need to carve my place in the work world and be aware of when to alter my course; to keep myself engaged and productive during my work life. These were Achiever, Learner & Futuristic. The Strength Finder results correctly deduced from my answers that I am an achiever, always on pushing myself to complete the task at hand the soonest time possible motivated by the desire to accomplish the next tasks. The determination, a leadership trait under the Leadership Trait Approach , to achieve a goal, whether professional or personal, had been stressed to me and my siblings by my parents, who knowingly or unknowingly were using the transformational approach of leadership which is defined as “stimulat[ing] and inspir[ing] followers to both achieve extraordinary outcomes . . . .“ When inspiring my kids to prepare for the future, I also use the same leadership style. Futuristic or foresight is another strength I have based on the Gallup Finder. Foresight, one of the ten characteristics of a servant leader based on the writings of Robert Greenleaf, is the ability to foresee the future and what could be. According the Lina Serpa a leader must focus not just on what needs to be done for today, but even take the opportunity when available to anticipate the future. With foresight, a leader is able to motivate others with the vision. Being a learner is another asset identified by the Strength Finder. This asset relates to one of the big five personality factors under the Leadership Trait Approach of openness, which refers to the level of curiosity to new ideas versus comfort with familiar
