Recommended: Astrology is helpful to understand events on earth

Carl Sagan once said, “Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of knowledge.” This statement would help to understand why people believe in astrology because it is a way of thinking. Astrology not supported by scientific studies but has many followers why might that be? Because astrology gives, people who believe a glimpse into their future whether this is true or not depends on what one believes. Astrology can offer a desirable forecast for the future especially for those who are experiencing a rough time. It does not matter that astrology not proven by science; people who believe in astrology do not care about someone else proving that it exist. Astrology is a way of thinking that things only happen for a reason and that it is not coincidental. If something happens because it coincidental then it would be science, and astrology is not really science. Astrology gives believers the reasons why some of the things happening to them are happening. Astrology may shed light on those who need a better understanding. People want to know their future it may give them something to look forward too. People who believe in astrology have a tendency of thinking that horoscope will help them prepare for their future. Astrology can be satisfying and personally fulfilling wisdom for most who believe. There are four steps to explore the scientific method of something and this would not work on astrology. There is no scientific method when it comes to astrology because there is no proof that it is real or not real. How astrology is measured would be very difficult to determine. Astrology not observed in a scientific testing facility, because it involves thinking by someone that believes in astrology. A hypothesis to compare a... ... middle of paper ... ...e, could attribute a failure to perform psychic readings and feats to “bad timing,” an “uncooperative spirit,” or “negative energy.” (Kirby 255) Therefore, astrology is not really a science but more of a way of thinking by some. Astrology cannot compare to a science by a practical means. However, one thing is for sure astrology has many followers and continues to grow in popularity. Since astrology can offer its followers, a desirable forecast for the future by giving them a glimpse of what may come their way someday. For those who think that astrology is real it would be hard to convince them otherwise. Nothing will change their minds not even the fact that astrology never supported by a scientific study.     1. Video “Here Be Dragons” by Brian Dunning (4/15/14) is a fresh and critical overlook on the huge variety of so called “dragons” which exist in abundance even in our civilized society. This video promotes critical thinking and demonstrates the “red flags” that one has to look out for in order to detect pseudosciences. A pseudoscience is an idea that claims to be real but is not backed by any real science or evidence. For instance, hair analysis, feng shui, psychokinesis, homeopathy, numerology, aura analysis, the list could go on forever. The warning signs for such “sciences” are - appeal to authority, ancient wisdom, confirmation bias, confuse correlation with causation, red herring, proof by verbosity, mystical energy, suppression by authority, all natural and ideological support. The one “red flag” I have always been skeptical about and this video confirmed it for me is “appeal to authority”. It is hard for me to understand how people actually trust advertisements that are simply screaming “we are specialists, look at our white lab coats and and all the certificates and the celebrities that support our product”. It is simply pathetic. As Brian says - “Good science presents good data, it does not aim to impress”. However, the one “red flag” that I have to be careful about myself is confusing correlation with causation. It is the natural human tendency to assume that, if two events or phenomena consistently occur at about the same time, then one is the cause of the other. Our weakness for this tactic is often exploited by scammers and bogus scientists when they want to persuade us that a relationship exists between two variables without providing supporting evidence.
