Introduction
I chose to do my internship at Oilily because they are a brand I have followed a lot and to me, is one of the most iconic childrenswear brand out there. When I emailed and asked what my role would be I was told a lot of it would be hand drawing to produce prints with. This was perfect for me, as my initial drawing stages are usually areas that let me down. It was also important that I was designing print for childrenswear as this is a path I had always visualised going down, and working with Oilily for three months has shown me that this is an area I would still love to go into. In 2001 the family owned business was sold to a bank and Investment Company and then seven years later in 2008, went bankrupt. In 2009 Oilily was bought back into the Olsthoorn family and is now back on track and planning to open its first store in Holland since all were lost when the brand went bankrupt. The first that I needed to use was colour matching. The first draft of each colour palette had twelve colours each and there were seven palettes. Each of these I had to match by eye using a pantone swatch book, so learning how to colour match came in really handy as there was a lot of it I had to do. University was also the first time I had to use a colour palette and I really struggled at first refining my colours down to a select few. Thanks to this practice I had during the past year, I found it a great deal easier using colour palettes, and using them well at Oilily. One last skill that helped me was my use of Photoshop. Photoshop is used a lot in the design process at Oilily and I found that having prior knowledge of the programme helped me massively and there where even elements of it that I taught to existing staff at
