My idea of a friend is a person who shares similar morals and interests as I do. A friend is a person that will be there to make my life more positive and encourage me to live my life to the fullest. They will encourage me, support me, point out my mistakes, and help me make better choices from those mistakes. Regardless of disagreements or different views of things in life, a friend will accept me for who I am. This concept of a friend was not always this way. It took a very long time for me to learn what a real friend is.
According to Tom Rath’s Vital Friends, my best friend Donna Michelle fills many roles; here I will touch on a few: Mind Opener, Companion, and Champion. I will start by saying that Donna is not an ordinary friend. She is

By the time I was around the age of 16, I ended up in a larger facility called Caliente Youth Center. After arriving at CYC, lo and behold, Donna shows up. We were both in tears when we saw each other. Our friendship resumed like we never parted. She is what Rath would consider to be my Companion, “You share a bond that’s virtually unbreakable.” (105). Donna was always there for me in the worst parts of my life. One day, I had received a letter in the mail from the guy I was dating saying that he was breaking up with me. I was crushed as this was my first real boyfriend I had and we had dated for two years. I later found out that he got another girl pregnant and married her two weeks after learning the news. Donna was right there beside me, being a constant in my life. She lifted my spirits, helped me get over the hurt, and helped me focus on working my program at CYC. She would write me loving letters of encouragement and notes to brighten my …show more content…
Again, we lost touch. About 8 or 9 years later, social media brought us back together again. In those years apart we have been through many changes in life: marriages, children, family problems, and deaths – almost everything you can list. We spent a lot of time talking and catching with one another. By this time in my life, I had enlisted in the military and was a single mom. Since the time we reconnected, she has been one of my biggest fans and has always supported me. She tells me all the time that I am her hero and she looks up to me for the things I have done and overcome. Rath describes a Champion, “When you succeed, they are proud of you, and they share it with others.” (93). Donna is most definitely my champion. She tells me that I motivate her in life and that her children look up to me as well. Even though I feel as though I am not great of a person, Donna will never let me forget that I am
Webster defines friendship as the emotions or conduct of friends; the state of being friends. Growing up you realize that every relationship is tested throughout time and some make it through that time and others do not.
I thought her stay would last a day or two but days turned into weeks and weeks turned into a month. It wasn't until we had a family session at a hospital that I found out that she was in the living at the hospital. The meeting was all in Karen so I didn’t understand much of what people were saying. That summer of 3rd grade, I only saw my sister for a month and I had no idea what happened to her.

In addition, I wanted to accelerate faster into accomplishing the goal of one day surpassing her. In short, my sister Cynthia whole-heartedly impacted my life through adolescents by being by my side in education and decision
Steinbeck’s text suggests that friendships are not always what they seem to be. When one thinks of a typical friendship, some things that generally come to mind include enjoyable encounters and happy memories through compassion, care, and kindness. However, in George’s and Lennie’s friendship, the two do share compassion, care, and kindness, just not along with pleasurable experiences and joyful memories. Instead, hard work and responsibility, for George, are what make their bond so strong. Slim notes, “ ‘I hardly ever seen two guys travel together’ ” (Steinbeck 37). Despite challenges, friendships are still the key to happy and enjoyable lives.
What is your definition of a true friend? Well, to me, a true friend is someone who understands you, accepts you for who you are, and is willing to do anything for you. While reading John Steinbeck’s classic, Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie maintain a true friendship despite all the ups and downs they encounter. After Lennie Small, a man as gigantic as a mammoth with a pea-sized brain is caught touching a girl’s dress in the town of Weed, he and his best friend, an average migrant worker, George Milton, travel a strenuous journey to the town of Soledad and start working on a ranch. The young men come to realize that they have a true, brotherly bond and nothing can separate them. Even though the book has its rough spots, Steinbeck portrays the true bond of friendship that even people as close as siblings have. Throughout the story, George

She could explain anything to me and I would understand straight away. She helped a lot for my education and always was there to help. My parents knew that she could teach me and show how hard it is these days and how hard I should work. That is why they always made sure I saw her enough but it never was for me.
A friend is someone difficult to find. A friend is someone you can always count on when times are tough. The dictionary's definition of a good friend is a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard. A good friend is there when you are struggling. According to Bree Neff, a good friend is someone who is trustworthy, doesn't talk behind your back, listens to your problems, gives good advice and tries to lend humor along with his or her support. There are also bad friends, those who pretend to care and then turn around gossiping and starting drama. Good and bad friends are all around you, involved in your everyday life. To find good friends you should look for such traits as being kind, trustworthy, loyal and dependable.
