Since a very young age I've been through a lot of hard times and struggles. I moved many times as a child to a lot of different places and growing up the youngest out of five children which was pretty rough for me. My mother was also a single parent and did all she could for us without any of my father's help. One of my biggest struggles was when my mom passed away from a terminal disease called sarcoidosis on March 20, 2011. I have been trying my hardest to reach my goals to make her proud. I am determined to accomplish my long and short term goals for a better life in my near future for me and my loved ones. One of my first and most important goals that I have been yearning for is my high school diploma. My freshmen year of high school did not go well for me. I was placed in behavior disability classes because of my bad behavior in school after a couple of weeks into the semester. When they placed me in the behavior disability classes I began to lose focus on why i was coming to school. I would come just to misbehave, because that's what I was classified as. I didn't care about learning or doing my assignments that they had for me. I would constantly get in trouble with my teachers and my mom for the same thing the I deeply regret now. Later , on at the end of the semester my mom passed away and I had to make a choice to stay in North Chicago or move to Dolton with my cousin. …show more content…
My cousin opened my eyes to a lot of different things with the time I spent with her. I started going to church and I joined the choir and everything but I didn't change any of my bad ways in school. My sophomore year was basically a repeat of my freshman year. After a couple of weeks I was placed back in behavior disability classes because I still didn't take school serious and I did what
Although I have always been able to overcome obstacles thrown my way, I am aware that others have not. I have volunteered for fundraisers to raise funds for the community. I was a volunteer at a local hospital for 2 years and was able to interact with members of the community and learn more about the struggles that they go through. As a volunteer, I was not able to do much, but listening to them and relaying their message to their nurse did aid in making sure that their voices was heard and appropriate treatment was given to them. After becoming a nursing assistant, I was and still am able to help care for people in underserved communities. Some of them come in with no health insurance due to its cost, and others come in with illnesses and lifestyle choices that have torn their families apart. No matter the circumstance I will continue to do what I can to make sure that they have proper treatment and that they know that I will not judge them; I will care for them. I do not want to leave anyone behind because of his or her circumstance. Becoming a nurse will be one experience that will allow me to find myself in the care and service of others, to me, that is a beautiful
My high school is completely project-based. We've designed restaurants, traveled to Mars, redone the trials of Exxon-Valdez and Bhopal, and had our own Olympics. All of our academic subjects integrate into the projects. In 11th grade, second trimester, the assignment was to build and maintain a utopian society on Mars. As part of the project, I was asked to define the value system of my group's utopia by ranking the importance of ten qualities that make a successful city, including health care, pollution, transportation, education, housing, entertainment, and others. I wondered how I would even begin.
The life I have had so far has taught me a lot about academic and life skills; from when I was about six to the age I am now. I am always learning and happy to learn new things. I might not know what I want right now, but I do know that I want something for my life; I want to go to college, so I could make the future I see happen. As you 're reading this you 're probably asking yourself why? Why does going and graduating college mean so much to her? What makes her different from all the others? Well, to answer all those questions you would have to continue reading as I explain some of the moments in my life, in which they brought me to the conclusion that I have to go to college.
Although some individuals may believe that it was a miracle that my father survived cancer, it was much more than that. The optimism of my family, friends, and loved ones enabled my dad to relieve his stress and focus on his cancer treatment. This situation has changed my mindset in life and it has provoked me to stay hopeful even when the odds are not in my favor. I’ve began to use positive thinking to help guide myself to my ambitions. This made my transition into adulthood much easier because I was prepared to deal with difficult situations. I began to cherish my loved ones even more than before. I realized all the luxuries that I had received and took for granted. I learned that the most important people in life is your family and without them, it’s near impossible to be successful. If my father had lost his fight, I would have had to become more independent as I would become the man of the house. Going into adulthood, I’ve learned that I should take situations into my owns hands rathering that relying on others. Some people that may be there for you today, may not be there

Out of many events of my life, not many have been ones that have helped me decide a path of academic or future careers. There has only been one such event in recent years that has helped me decided for the first time classes and majors that I would be interested in. This event was a field trip and competition at IUPUI.
The main reason I want to become a teacher is so that I can have a positive impact on the upcoming generations. I realize that teachers and coaches have an amazing opportunity to push their students toward success and bright futures. I look back at my high school years and see how coaches pushed me to succeed off the playing field through making good grades, while some teachers giving me more opportunities like going to UIL contests. While I was in college, I felt a calling to become a man and grow in manhood, and with that call I also felt the call to push young men to grow in manhood as well. And from looking back on my experiences in school and watching the impact that those teachers and coaches had on me, but not just me but other students to be successful in everything they do

...dn’t accomplish much of anything in high school I finally woke up by realizing I couldn’t mess up on my last chance at redemption. I came having no friends for to depend on, a very pessimistic mindset, and horrible persistence on pushing myself to things I wasn’t ready for; now I am confident enough on my own abilities and what they can be applied towards. After my first semester I made nearly all A’s, was recommended into “The Honors College” at Lone Star, and was named to the President’s List. This might not mean much to other students, but for me it was like breaking the chains that were holding back a potential that has yet to have been entirely expanded upon. To make a long story short, I am the type of person who will find a way to get things done by going through any obstacle that stands in my way to reach my goal, and my goal right now is to become an Aggie.
College is meant to prepare you for your future career and the real world. So far I feel like I’m adjusting to the fact that I’m on my own here at King’s and don’t have my parents telling me what to do all the time. Becoming independent is a big key that you realize in college and I believe I will definitely utilize that in the real world. So far my experience with college has been good. College is a lot of work and I expected that so I wasn’t surprised when I had days where I had to spend a couple hours at the library. My classes are decent, some are harder than others and I have to put a little more effort into those ones. I also have experienced my first biology and chemistry exams, and they were both in the same week which was very stressful.
My journey as a student has always been focused on the path to college and success. Before I even set foot in kindergarten my mother, a college dropout, always told me that “honor roll wasn’t an option” and that I would be attending college in the future and achieving a degree. Most of the time I made these requirements. Most of the time I was awarded honor roll or had a newly edited list of colleges to attend, but sometimes life got in the way of my dreams of achieving success.
