Why I Chose High School

This is of anecdote of two step-sisters from Miami, Teresa and Julia, who have lived and gone to school in the United States all their lives but who live through their teenage years with different mentalities. I trust that we make our own future and that nothing is predestined, she does not. I find that teenagers should take advantage of this time they have in High School to get superior marks to achieve the best possible outcome for their future. She does not. We believe that there is nothing predestined but that our fate is all up to our choices. There is no box limiting us to our opportunities. I am like many students always stressing about deadlines and exams. The future is overwhelming to me. I know that right now is where the decisions that will shape the next 60 years of my life will come to play. My choice between studying for college entrance exams or binge watching my favorite shows would determine my scores, which would determine my college, which would determine my job, therefore my salary and opportunities for the rest of my life. This logic makes me try to plan my steps so I am ahead of the game. I have the mentality of accomplishing for the better of my future. I plan ahead so I’m not lost in this game of life. Teresa and I are still really close sisters. We text-message and see each other on the weekends very often. We occasionally go to the beach, mall, or movies together. Our bond is still really strong because we grew up together. We are always each other’s shoulder to cry on if we need it. If we are heated and needed a person to rant to we have each other. It’s a strong relationship but we have different views on life. She believes in fate and I believe in empowerment to your own future. Teresa trusts there is a carved into stone path we have to follow and I am certain of that we make our own unique
