Everyone needs to work in order to survive in this competitive world. We go out looking for whatever job that can fulfill our earthy needs. Especially when you are an expensive person, and you are only in search for the most popular brands out in the market. The job I had was interesting, tiring, and awful. It was my first year in college, and it was my first job in my life. I was lured into the job by the salary it offered. At the time I thought to myself, “it’s not much but it’s a start.” I was hired for my bilingual speaking ability. I started working at the Indiana Tamales Restaurant located in East Los Angeles, surrounded by a Hispanic community. I was only offered to work two days a week, which meant only Saturday and Sunday. I learned how to cook what I didn’t know before. Burning my hands as I learned to make tamales, gorditas and popusas. I was taught so that I could be able to work by myself. None of my co-workers liked to work cashier. They hated attending customers, and sometimes they would respond to them rudely. I was the completely opposite, when it came to attending someone I was taught to always attend with manners. Even if I was in my worst mood just by smiling could satisfy the customer. This job required a lot of walking and standing. On the busiest days it meant almost running. You had to had like the craziest math skills because they only have on cashier machine. Working alone meant working the fastest I could move. Sometimes I had to take my breaks late because no one would help me out. Every day I had to clean my station before I could leave. I had to sweep the dusty mats and mop the filthy floors. Wipe the counters with disinfectant and replace all the beverages. At the end of every day I could just feel the pain in my calf’s and swollen …show more content…
The co-workers I had, they tried to make me feel uncomfortable for the first few weeks. They would leave me alone for most of the time so that my boss could see I was incapable of doing it. They thought the job was too hard for me seeing that I was young. They wanted me to quit so they would get to put in more hours. I didn’t give up I kept going because I knew I could do it. My boss could see through the cameras how unfair my co-workers were treating me. He didn’t change nothing. Another dislike for this place was the area. It’s not a typical dine in restaurant everything is to go. Sometimes the place gets so heavily packed, and the line is so long it makes you desperate. Even if you are doing your job right the customers make you feel like you are not. Everyone can see you hustling back and forth getting their order ready, but they still manage to make a complaint that they been waiting for too long. I hate being insulted, especially when you are forced to ignore it. Customers can be so rude and disrespectful, yet they expect you to attend with respect. Sometimes drunks would walk and expect me to sell them beer. Let me remind you I was 17 years
...ting older as days went by. I began to realize that businesses were built on child labor, child labor was what kept big businesses and companies running and without that, they were nothing. The government was so selfish, they looked to make great profits and have to pay so little. Children like me were exactly what they wanted because we were minors and at that time did not think of starting a union. What really upset me was that the factory where I was working treated me as an adult and they were treating me so harshly. I was so young and being treated like dirt, constantly commanding me, working with no breaks and getting paid so little. I had to do it though and I had no other options so I followed all the orders I was given. I needed the job more than anything. My life wasn’t getting any better as time went by. I just tried to survive and provide for my family.
In the beginning of 2012, I lost my job and have been searching for a job for several months. At that time I was very stressed because I could not find anything that was suitable for me. One weekend, I decided to go to the shopping mall for some window shopping because i...
I was hired quickly and kept my first job for a year. During that year, I worked quite often, which had affected my school work. I didn’t make time to study and went to bed late most nights. As much as I wanted to quit, I kept working. I wanted to quit, because I feared I couldn’t keep up with school anymore. It terrified me that I would fall so behind, and never get anywhere in life. I kept faith, and I worked hard to get where I am today. I never gave up. I did not like asking for money at home, because I knew everyone was already struggling. I felt like I needed my job, so that I could make money to pay for things myself. Without work, I wouldn’t have any lunch money for school. My grandparents helped as much as they could. It's not their job though, I felt that it wasn’t fair they had to keep spending their money on me. Working has taught me great skills. I was shy before my first job. I am now more outgoing and social; I love meeting new people. I still work to this very day, and I am working hard in school. With good time management, I’m able to keep up with
The time has changed and the people has changed. Old generations tried to have jobs that got paid high salaries, but today's generations are different. We seek for the jobs that can "impress people," "show our individuality," and "enjoy," but not for the high paid salary jobs anymore. Finding meaningful job is harder than having a high salary job. The reason is that we are not willing to have jobs that gives you high salaries, but something that you can enjoy and satisfy.
Although I was nervous because I had never done anything like this before, I had only been accustomed to cutting grass or construction jobs with my dad that only involved nailing wood and sheets of plywood. I worked for Frank for about a year and a half before I had to quit. I missed California too much, including the warm air, the smell of the dairies, and the ocean breeze. I moved back and lived with my dad. I have had a few jobs in my life that didn't last very long, either because the timing wasn't right or for other reasons.
People are consumed with their own reality that they didn’t even acknowledge me sitting at a table watching them. Each person seemed to have their own stories different from everyone else’s. For the most part, the employees seemed to have similar interests in wanted to produce the best customer service. The customers had the same goal of wanting to try a new popular restaurant they might have been unfamiliar with. Overall, the general consensus was that a majority of people wanted to get on with their day with as little human interaction as
Thomas Carlyle, a preeminent figure of the Victorian era, said, “The real desire to get work done will itself lead one to more and more to truth” (Carlyle). Many teenagers all over the world rely on jobs to earn money to do fun activities with their friends. There are also many adults who have jobs to get by in life. Along with this, there are people who have a career. The difference between the two is that people who have a job work just to earn money, but do not enjoy it. People who have have a career enjoy their jobs and are very passionate.
Having a job that pays a lot, and not fun to you, then what’s the point of working for it? If you can’t see yourself doing something and you go just for the money, you will not be happy. Would you rather get up knowing you could make a change, and happy with what you’re doing; or getting up mad not wanting to go somewhere to work but you have to, to pay off bills. If you want to work for something, do something you like.
3. How do you feel this job might differ from that of one in a fast food restaurant?
all about working and learning, is it? My job was much more than just work, it was
Work Experience: What I learned from working is that I am always told what to do. I am always order to do something. I did not enjoy that experience that is why I left.
That summer after school I just wanted to find a job and start making some money. Going to college for anther four year was something I thought I could not handle. I final got a job at UPS unloading trucks. At first I thought how hard could it be? But every day I would come home exhausted from working in the heat. And then when I got tiny pay check, it hit me. From then on I decided that manual labor was something that I could not do the rest of my life and I could definitely not support a family on that income. A job behind a desk in the air conditioning was what I wanted.
I worked at Aerpostale for over two years and had never gotten a promotion, I guess with so much chaos going on no-one grew. So, in a sense it made my life a bit miserable but I wouldn’t change anything that happened because everything happens for a reason. My first job really taught me a huge lesson and it opened my eyes to the realization that everyone comes and goes and that’s just how the business is. Everyone is replaceable and company’s don’t really care about the well-being of their staff. I can say that after all of the nonsense and two years of experience, I have a new job that I am proud of. Money isn’t everything, especially if you 're not happy with the job you have making it.
Happiness is achieved in many ways rather than money. It is better to do the job that we are passionate brings smile in our face rather than doing the job we don’t like and get paid more. They do what they are passionate of. They feel that it is more important to enjoy work. There is something more than money, that is love. Many believe without love, life is incomplete. Everyone has family and it is the important to value that. People who put family first in their life will always become a successful person with the love, blessings and support from their family. Such people are always happy in their life.
When entering a restaurant, I usually expect to leave full, satisfied, and wanting to come back again. I believe that many people expect the same thing. The way people react to service can be very different from person to person. Depending on the way the customers are feeling, or the way that the server is feeling can be a big factor for the way service comes across. Service is an important part of everyone’s lives because majority of the jobs that people preform are service related. Poor service is an unfortunate part of life that everyone comes across. The way that I react to the poor service I receive is important and can change in the blink of an eye. Whether I react in an outspoken way, by getting loud and voicing my opinion. Or if I react in a quiet or apologetic way, it can affect my server, and the people around me, and myself.
