Go back to when you were younger and your entire family is over and the smell of freshly baked Christmas cookies is filling your house. Do you remember how happy that smell made you? You would run into the kitchen to try and sneak a warm, freshly baked cookie, repeating this process until you got a stomach ache. Who would let you sneak so many cookies? Only my Grammy would act like it was my first cookie. She is the best baker in the world, and no one could ever beat her Christmas cookies. You try to find someone who can bake just as good as she can, and even your own Mother cannot make them the same way. My Grammy is the reason I began to love baking and all that it entails. Learning how to measure each ingredient correctly, can be challenging, but there are many different tips and tricks my Grammy taught me to use so that each cookie comes out perfectly. In baking, it is easier to mix the wet and dry ingredients separately, to be sure there are no lumps in the dough. For instance, when you are preparing the wet ingredients, you must first make sure the butter and eggs are at room temperature so that it will mix evenly and smoothly with the other ingredients. Another tip I learned is that when you are measuring the dry ingredients, such as flour, you must make sure you are not packing the flour into the measuring cup. If you do pack down the flour, you will have too much flour in your cookies and they will not rise as they should. Be sure to add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients gradually, making sure to mix everything thoroughly, or you might end up with flour all over your Grammys kitchen counter and yourself. Another tip is to use an ice cream scoop for measuring out the size of the cookies so that they are even in size. The first important thing to begin with in baking is by making sure you have all the ingredients you will need. For the chocolate chip cookies, you will need flour, baking soda, salt, sugar, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, eggs, and chocolate chips. Then, take out all the ingredients and place them on the counter, putting each of them away as you use them so you don’t reuse any. Also, make sure that you have all the correct measuring tools out, such as measuring cups, spoons, mixers, bowls and baking sheets. Follow the steps of the recipe and mix everything together evenly. Then, use the cookie scoop tip I mentioned earlier to measure the size of the cookies, and place them evenly spread apart on the baking sheet. Lastly, cook the cookies for the allotted time, or a little less as my Grammy does, and then let the cookies cool on a cooling
