"Tony you have a great eye for detail" This is just one compliment from many that I have heard about my dad Tony. What does one expect from a tailor living in the fashion capital of Shanghai, China. Even though he is a tailor his unique fashion sense has not faded even at the age of 51. He could be spotted miles away for his chic attire even in the crowded streets of China.
When I was young, living in India my father took pleasure in molding me to have "only one of its kind" senses of fashion. For example, when I was to get ready for school my father always ironed my uniform, and prepped everything neat for school. Even though I had a wrinkle free uniform, just to drop me of to school on his motorcycle, he would also iron his jeans. Till now we have a habit of doing the same thing, who knew this trend would still be in the family.
Being young, I had no idea about what I should wear or not. All the clothes that I had would be recommended by my parents, including my father whom would like to color coordinate my clothes just so I can go outside and play with my friends. He always wanted me look like a proper young trend-setting girl in our little neighborhood.
Furthermore, I remember a weird incident that took place during a trip to Delhi with my father, which was not helpful when it came to his glossy clothing. As usual he sleeks his hair back coolly with gel, put on his shirt and studded jeans with bright blue shoes and we were all set to explore Delhi. Our first stop was to go inside to see the Taj Mahal. Usually when we have to enter the Taj Mahal there are three lines: a female line, a male line, and finally the "foreign tourists" line. We stood in the two lines, but ended up being held back for 30 minutes trying to...

... he is able to creatively alter for professional and formal wear. Since he has dressed a range of people through years, being liked for his look my father was able to attract many famous clients such as: Clint Eastwood, Danny Glover, and Sylvester Stallone.
In short, my father's sense of style is somewhere I have never seen. He has a very colorful taste when it comes to clothes. My father is a magnet when it comes to being a style icon. Dad's tailoring and clothing experience makes him look like an expertly executed professional. Who has every last detail totally nailed and ends up sending a powerful message that turns many heads. This look helps him spread his trendy, eye-catching, and detailed style for all types of people in the ever-changing clothing line in the world. In the end, my dad lives in a world were he makes it his business to make you look good!
He enjoys, what he calls the “Aha Moment” where the actor can see themselves, and understands their body language when they see their selves transform into their character. If the character is from a time period of the past, he goes as far as putting them in vintage panties or giving them a pocketbook with a handkerchief or a lipstick from that era. He wants his characters to feel as if they are from that time period as well. As far as being a designer he feels that there are certain guidelines he has to do for his work to come to life. Firstly, he said that he hasn’t changed his outfit in over thirty years and does not wear jeans.
Many Fashion trends and ideal body image such as being pale, thin and wearing wigs were born from diseases like syphilis and tuberculosis. Things that were being romanticized, such as diseases or anything that took over someone completely, became the new ideals in society. Because many people were trying to reflect the ideal body image portrayed by society, they went to certain extremes. Some would do whatever it took to get the idealized look, whether it was wearing harmful powder and corsets. This all brought about changes in fashion that led to new ideals and also because of new ideals, people took on trends that destroyed

Throughout the world of men’s fashion in the 50’s, a few men rose above social normalities and created a style everyone man wanted to follow. One of these men was Elvis Presley who was highly regarded in the music industry for his unique style. This originality carried through to his fashion choices with an obvious distaste of adhering to social standards. Elvis wore whatever pleased him; this included bright colours, patterns, large belts and even wearing his favourite colour of pink. Another key icon in men’s fashion was James dean. His simplistic yet edgy style became the ‘cool’ thing. His bad boy persona made the girls heart melt, making men all across the world try to achieve his look.
“I know what women want. They want to be beautiful” (www.vogue.com/voguepedia/Valentino) said Valentino Garavani who was one of the most influential fashion designs of the 20th and 21st century, “Known for his classic designs, he's been dressing the world’s rich and famous for almost the last five decades. Valentino has built his once small fashion house into a fashion empire.” (www.lifeinitaly.com/fashion/valentino-garavini.asp) His career in fashion started in the fifties but his passion for it began as a young child with the approval and encouragement of his parents. Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani was born in Italy in 1932 where he lived for 17 years until he left for Paris to study fashion at the famous school of L’ecole de la Chambre Syndicate de La Couture Parisenne. Valentino’s first career within the industry was with couture atelier Jean dresses where he sketched any chance he got which showed his elaborate aesthetic. He meets extraordinary people during his time there and also designed one of his first solo creations. After five years at Jean dresses he leaves. Valentino has a brief job with friend Guy Laroche, in his small fashion house before moving back to Rome in 1959 to continue his fashion career independently with the backing of his parents. Valentino established his status amongst the elite of the Dolce Vita. In 1960 he met Giancarlo Giammetti in a coffee shop and one of the most significant partnerships in fashion was formed. Giammetti would become his partner in both business and life.
For Mr. Lauren, the starting point is always his concern for quality and attention to detail, while the creative drama comes from his own romantic sense of elegance and reverence for authencity. Always true to his own purely American vision of fashion, his products are nearly as diverse as the country that inspires them. He designs a wide range of products, including menswear, womenswear, boyswear, girlswear, home furnishing, eyewear, scarves, shoes, hosiery, fragrances, handbag, luggage and leather goods. And the stores that carry his products are located across the United States and around the world.
Georg Simmel explores the impact societal differentiation played on the 20th century, in the article Fashion, published in 1957 in The American Journal of Sociology, Volume LXII, Number 6. In this text he defines his theory stating “The elite initiate a fashion and, when the mass imitates it in an effort to obliterate the external distinction of class, abandons it for a newer mode- a process that quickens with the increase of wealth” (Fashion, p.541). Fashion connects those of a higher social class and segregates them from others. Simmel believes that fashion evolves from class differentiation, as members of the elite class seek to set themselves apart from other classes, and in turn a revolving cycle begins (Blumer, p.277). Members from other lower classes copy the elite’s fashion and with this the elite must change...
I remember when I was in high school I would wake up every morning dreading the thought of “what am I going to wear today?” I remember seeing girls in school who would always have new clothes and I would wish of a wardrobe with name brand clothes. With my parents having three daughters in school who didn’t require uniform I could just imagine the nightmare it was for them to have to take three girls shopping all the time.
The main secondary factors consist of how I act, how I dress, and how I as well as others would describe myself. My style includes an array of ranges from semi punk to somewhat hipster to quite grunge. Which ironically is fairly similar to how my mother dressed since she was a teenager during the 80’s when the grunge style was just newly arising to the fashion industry. Nonetheless, my wardrobe mainly consists of worn down combat boots, charmed chokers, light as well as dark washed flannels, and ripped tights. Although many people would argue that an individual’s style is majorly influenced by societal standards and expectations of what is appropriate, I can firmly say that my style is solely based upon my liking and not those of others. In certain cases I will have to purchase clothing from online retails because the clothing the majority of teenagers wear don’t appeal to my style preference. Consequently, my clothing choices can tend to spark debate between the more conservative elders of today’s society however, I adamantly believe that wearing what makes you feel confident within yourself is what should be deemed
Historically, multiple styles of dressing have been created during the last several decades, which played an important role in modern fashion in the UK. Everyone has a different and unique dressing style in their general life. Some styles are influenced in vintage styles which is attributing to the deep effects of old vogue, and another group of dressing styles are inclined into the fresh element. According to those different styles some of them are even evolved in the milestones in fashion history.
Clothing has been around for thousands of years; almost as long as the modern human has. At first, it served the practical purpose of protection from the elements; but, as life for early humans stopped being a constant struggle to survive, they started noticing how they looked and the concept of fashion began to take shape. These first few garments were typically dyed draped cloth that was pinned at the shoulder and/or waist. This was seen in many ancient civilizations around the world, Greek and Roman the most notable. Over time, clothing began to get more and more complex and formed to the body’s shape, eventually leading up to the tailored style we now have today. However, the sophisticated world of Haute Couture; or high fashion, can distinctly trace its roots to Paris during the mid-19th century. Clothing from there was thought to be superior to those from anywhere else, and women began to come from all over Europe just to buy dresses. This was probably due in part to one notable dressm...
Every generation has their own style; something that sets them apart from the previous generations. So why does our generation choose to wear the clothing that they do? Of course we don't want to dress like our parents, but there are other factors involved in developing the style of a generation.
From a historic point of view, Western travelers had remarked on the slow pace of lifestyle and fashion change in Turkey and Persia. On the other hand, many people were of the opinion that the western culture is getting out of hand in terms of dressing fashion (Cumming 234). In most cases, change of fashion and dressing style took place hand in hand with economic and social changes. In the developing world, changes in fashion began with the coming of the whites in Middle East. Changes began in the 11th century when the Turks came to central Asia and Far East. In Europe, continuous change in clothing fashion is believed to have started in middle 14th century. It started by a sudden introduction of shortening and tightening of male garments, it further brought the introduction of trousers and leggings that were worn by men (Cumming 235). After the advent of change in men fashion, it was followed by changes in female c...
What material makes up most of my wardrobe are only durable materials like silk, wool, high-quality cotton, for the purpose of comfort, withstanding all of New England’s seasonal weather and being sustainable for many years. Now comes the part of recognizing what personal style is the most suitable. For instance, I dress in the manner that suits only to business casual and casual overall. Mainly my entire closet wardrobe consists of medium-sized jeans, solid colored v neck T-shirts and athletic clothing, just to wear for ordinary activities. However, since I'm a second-year college undergraduate, I do wear at times professional looking clothing for courtesy reasons. On those occasions, I typically wear a light colored white or navy blue dress shirt and Flat Front dress pants from fashion brands like Express and
